Globe and Mail suspends columnist Leah McLaren after breastfeeding controversy
Toronto Star | March 30, 2017 | Staff

Suspension follows social media furor over a column in which the writer described her attempt to breastfeed MP Michael Chong’s baby without his knowledge.

....

The Globe and Mail has suspended marquee columnist Leah McLaren for a week.

A source told the Star that McLaren, who wrote about her attempt to breastfeed Tory Leadership candidate Michael Chong’s baby without his knowledge and at a time when she was not lactating herself, has been forbidden to comment on her controversial column or on her suspension.

Calls and e-mails to the newspaper were not immediately returned Thursday. McLaren told the Star by email on Thursday that she could not comment.

The column was posted briefly to the Globe and Mail’s website on March 22, but was subsequently removed. The column was “accidentally” posted online by editors before it was finished, the source told the Star.

The column caught the attention of social media users on Sunday night, who shared archived versions.

....

In the column, McLaren recounted an incident at a Toronto house party when she was “about 25” and happened upon a baby. She wrote that she was feeling down, and so picked the child up to give it a cuddle,

“Somehow, my pinky finger ended up in his mouth and I was astonished at the strength of his sucking reflex. ‘C’mon lady,’ said his eyes,” she wrote. “And I suddenly knew what he wanted. And I of course wanted to give him what he wanted. The only problem was, I had no milk. But would it be so bad, I wondered, if I just tried it out — just for a minute — just to see what it felt like?”

Words fail me. A one week suspension for a pedophiliac assault?

She ‘happened upon a baby’ at an adult party?
Obviously, she must have known the mom or dad was somewhere nearby. She should have talked to them about her ‘urges’.
I suspect Party Girl was drunk when this happened.
Some thought patterns should remain unspoken, like this one.

I’m no pediatrician but couldn’t feeding a baby breast milk from a woman other than it’s mother potentially cause health problems? Sounds like a possible child welfare endangerment case.

No. Back in the day wet nurses were commonly employed by women of means.

25 and at a party? And you couldn’t find a male guest willing to volunteer?

Is there a link or something? I’d like to review the evidence to determine this woman’s guilt or innocence.

Only an LGBT pedophile would think of something like this. I think it’s pretty safe to assume (from past news reports and statements they’ve made over the years) that the majority of LBGT deviants have pedophile tendencies and looking for the next victim to infect and convert

LGBTQXYZwhatever or not, it’s just plain wrong (and I would hope, illegal!) to grab someone else’s kid, much less attach part of one’s body to the child. She should have been fired and prosecuted.

True, but if this woman was sh!tfaced and/or high at the time, I wonder how much alcohol or who knows what was passed through her milk?

Yup, who knows if she has some illness/disease she could pass on to the child? e.g. HIV.

The actual incident happened over 10 years ago.

The baby's father walked in and saw what was going on.

This is his recent comment about it:
