I submit that its real objectives included radically thinning out the middle class. Much of that objective has been obtained. In a proper oligarchy with an extremely wealthy tiny overclass grabbing off more and more of the assets in the society and a very large poor class and little or no middle class, control is complete and easy.

I've basically said the same thing for years now. I'll add that the target included older men and women who remember what America used to be and hence, had an idea of how things should be as opposed to impressionable 18-35, much of which were heavily-indoctrinated by the NEA. IOW, a death by proxy of anyone over 50 by deconstructing health care. Perhaps even 45+. (a ping to my prophecy list - sorry for double pings - but this article nails the abomination of 2008 (campaign)-2017(still ongoing by his acolytes)
