McConnell: spine or no spine? Will he go nuclear? Nobody knows for sure.

News was reporting McConnell actually had all 52 Republicans ready to vote to go Nuclear (even Collins), Although I figured he did last week or he wouldn't have made his promise that Gorsuch would be on the court before the weekend one way or the other, (he's pretty cautious about over promising.)

Another morbidly fascinating US Senate session. The dems are over-reaching. I cannot understand why they aren’t going along with the Scalia replacement, thus keeping their powder dry in case Trump gets to replace a liberal judge.

Can we re-name this thread? Perhaps something like: “Countdown do McCain Lead Backstab.”

Sen. Ayotte (wish she had won NH; it was oh so close for her and President Trump) was on Fox this morning indicating it is essentially a done deal.

There was a story on thehill.com yesterday that supposedly McCain, Collins and several other actually TRIED another "Gang of Seven" deal, (where they would probably give away the farm and promise democrat 100 lower court seats or something for not filibustering). But they couldn't come to an agreement with their democrat counterparts and it fell apart Monday evening. So what you suggest wasn't actually far from the truth....

Does not the Senate go into recess tomorrow after the vote, leaving open the recess appointment route??

BTW, IMO, Gorsuch is not so much a right wing guy as he is a firm constructionist. Constitutional law is the law as written. I would not look for him to be overturning any established precedent. Fortunately, he will make the libs go the full amendment route in the future for any of their inane ideas. Lastly, his appointment does nothing to change what was virtually a 4-4 and a waffle vote before. The next appointment if it is one of the lefty 4, is the battle that needs be won. McConnell better use the nuclear and not go for the recess appointment route because the right will never win the filibuster vote on what will be an even more contentious party line vote for the next one.

**************************************************

The only thing that works for me is political “abstinence” :-) I don’t watch any event that is Repub vs ‘Rats any more .... I just follow most everything on FR & that keeps the blood pressure down below stroke levels, most of the time. For debates, I would get a large glass of wine and read comments. If there was a super good moment, I could usually find it on a video somewhere. These days, I can barely stomach to see/hear Ryan/McConnell, much less the lying Libs so here I am, on FR.

No glass of wine (yet) to go with this thread, too early.

I wish she had won also. Kelly Ayotte lost her reelection bid, IMHO, because she allowed herself to be corrupted by McCain & Graham and brought into their orbit. She should have been smarterhan that.

Have you see their base lately? They have ginned that base up so rabidly for their constant marches, protest and riots that they can not govern for fear of having them turn on the leaders and get primaried.

What they have not figured out is the independents and conservative democrat are watching them in horror.
