Skip to comments.McCain on filibuster change: ‘It’s a bad day for democracy’
Posted on 04/06/2017 1:27:54 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., bemoaned the state of the Senate on Thursday as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell moved to change the chambers rules in order to break through the Democratic filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch with a simple majority. Earlier in the day, Republicans failed to reach the 60-vote supermajority needed to end debate and proceed to a vote.
Its a bad day for democracy, McCain said before entering the Senate chamber, where he later voted with fellow Republicans to change the rules. I think its a terrible mistake that we will regret for many, many years to come.
McCain called the rule-change a slippery slope that will clearly lead to more extreme appointments for both sides and could embolden senators to change the rules for considering legislation, too.
We went from judges, to [a] Supreme Court justice, McCain said. Whats next?
McConnell has said he would not change the Senate rules for legislation.

He needs to be put in a nursing home ASAP. What a lunatic.
When have Republicans blocked Democrat appointments up for a vote?
Go pound sand John.
On the contrary mclame. It’s a great day for democracy, no more being held hostage by the criminally insane left.
The RINO and traitor McCain - media whore and drama queen.
Nutbar McCain laments he didn’t have enough cover to vote against the Nuclear Option.
Um, John.... we live in a Constitutional Republic. Not a democracy
Wait....he said it was a terrible, terrible decision, but then voted for it? Am I missing something?
BS....The Constituion doesn’t even call for a specific vote.
The old ways are better.
What a moron! The filibuster is one of the most undemocratic rules in government. It allows for the will of the people to be thwarted, the will of the majority in the Senate to go unexpressed since the minority prevents a vote from ever taking place!
Hey McInsane! There's nothing 'democratic' about the tyranny of the minority you old windbag!
Just become a Rat and get it over with, John.
Will this guy ever shut his mouth. Sometimes, I wish he would drop.
Gawd, how I loathe this scumbag.
Actually the “filibuster” is by definition quite undemocratic.
Let’s strap McCain on a 300 ton bomb and drop it right over the ISIS part of Syria and tell them to keep him there...
He’s beyond RINO, he’s a D in all but name.
How is it a "bad day for democracy" when a minority party is prevented from imposing its will in a political process?
I sure hope McQueeg isn't around for those "many, many years to come". Things will pick up a little after John departs this vale of tears.
