Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev denounced Donald Trump In the first direct American raid on Bashar al Assad’s forces, US President authorised the firing of 59 cruise missiles at military airfield

Officials said it was retaliation for Assad’s use of chemical weapons US ambassador to UN: ‘We are prepared to do more but we hope that will not be necessary’

Vladimir Putin has now diverted warship the Admiral Grigorovich to protect the Syrian coast

Syrian aircraft took off from al-Shayrat airfield on Friday in apparent act of defiance

The Kremlin has warned the US it is ‘one step from war' over Syria - but the Trump administration hit back by saying it would be prepared to carry out airstrikes again.

In the first direct American raid on Bashar al Assad’s forces, President Trump authorised the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military airfield.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev denounced the US for attacking ‘the legitimate government of Syria’ and for allegedly breaking international law without the approval of the UN.

Mr Medvedev said: ‘This military action is a clear indication of the US president’s extreme dependency on the views of the Washington establishment, the one that the new president strongly criticised in his inauguration speech.'

‘Soon after his victory, I noted that everything would depend on how soon Trump’s election promises would be broken by the existing power machine. It took only two and a half months.

’The last remaining election fog has lifted. Instead of an overworked statement about a joint fight against the biggest enemy, ISIS, the Trump administration proved that it will fiercely fight the legitimate Syrian government’.

But the US President warned he would do it again after unleashing a surprise attack on the Syrian regime with a massive show of firepower.

I found it interesting that the vociferous attack by Nikki Haley was met by the Russian Deputy Ambassador.

The second string UN guy means the Tomahawk attack wasn’t really a big deal to the Russians

Russian forces would get crushed by American forces. The Russian navy is still a 1980’s navy technology wise compared to our ships. Putin is not going to go to war with the US, a war he knows Russia would lose.

The thing about geopolitics is that sometimes you have to make tough, and RISKY decisions, or the other side walks all over you. We’ve hired Trump, quite literally, to ensure the other side does not walk all over us. We’ve found out what happens with a gelded president.

Is the risk of war greater now? Maybe. Or maybe the opposite is true. “No country was ever attacked because they were too powerfull.” - Ronald Reagan.

But the thing to note is that this is a game that should not be played by the feint of heart.

For the Freepers that are for war with Russia..... This is just reminder of what it could lead tp. Don’t forget the Russians have nuclear subs off our shores.

Here is the attack scene from the early 80s TV movie The Day After. It could lead to this if spins out of control

What you see is an EMP strike first (nuke in the stratosphere) that will basically blind us (shuts everything down) followed by nuclear strike.

Just more extreme left-wing anti-Trump rhetoric.

Not one lefty has explained why Russia would go to war over this bombing.

I don’t think we should do that. However, actions can have collateral victims as well as collateral winners.

Yep. He knows we have too much to lose to start anything, so he’s free to “threaten to start something”, knowing nothing will happen.

When they used chemical weapons, they crossed a red line. Donald Trump is not Barack Obama. This attack was necessary.

I don’t think there is a single person here in favor of war with Russia. Rather, I think they are all pointing out that Putin is just doing what putin does. He’s a bully that shakes down the weak kids for their lunch money but when the Football team shows up, he backs down.

If you have never read Red Dawn, I highly recommend it. It shows how there could be a real war between the US and the Soviets without anyone using Nukes, not that I would be in favor of such a thing.

But the fact is, the real world brings consequences that prevent leaders from taking actions that they take almost whimsically in movies.

i.e. you don’t just drop a few nukes because it looks like you are losing. You negotiate a peace, and hopefully one that can still save face. That is how the real world works. Though, there is, technically, always the possibility of “winner take all” war, it is absurdly rare, and with the result of “all” being a nuclear wasteland, it’s even more rare.
