‘Dog Company’: Bronze Star Decorated Army Captain Explains How [PC] Lawyers Are Betraying Our Troops
Breitbart News ^ | April 12, 2017 | John Hayward

Army Captain Roger Hill joined SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Wednesday’s Breitbart News Daily to talk about his new book, Dog Company: A True Story of American Soldiers Abandoned by Their High Command.

“The bottom line here is that we’ve got a set of politically driven rules of engagement that are getting our guys and girls overseas killed and hurt unnecessarily,” Hill said of his book’s urgent message.

“This book Dog Company highlights a number of examples of that, in a real setting, during a real deployment to a province in eastern Afghanistan” in 2008 and 2009, according to Hill.

“My First Sergeant, Tommy Scott, and myself, we led a heavy weapons company in a violent province in eastern Afghanistan,” he recalled. “It seemed like the enemy was always one step ahead of us, and we discovered why. Through the aid of a counter-intel team, we uncovered twelve spies operating on our base. These were Afghan laborers that were hired by the U.S. government to serve as translators and other workers to support us so that we could focus on combat operations.”

“Also at that time, I was receiving credible intelligence that the enemy was planning a large-scale attack against my base. My command made multiple calls to our higher command to get these twelve spies taken off our hands, as was according to protocol. They would not,” he continued.

I knew the ROE sucked but not how bad. The DOinJ sure earned that title. I thought VA families who lost their vets while under VA care had it bad. Nothing like going from hell on the battlefield to hell on American soil.

“The lawyers are running the war,” he complained. “That’s part of the problem here.”

Lawyers are part of EVERY PROBLEM we have! Just count up the a$$hole lawyas in our Congress for openers. They are part and parcel why we don’t get anything accomplished.

This is really bad. Heard him on Hannity. Sounded lika a really good troop who had obvious spies in his outfit, even his interpreter, but couldn't do anything about it. He got in trouble when he interrogated them. What a PC mess. Was told to drop a prisoner, who's life he saved, back in the hot LZ where he got him, other stories. Looks like a good read.

Trump has to fix this or we are going to lose good troops. Sounds like we're losing good pilots already, so I've heard. PC has infected everything in civilian and military life and it has to stop. PC is all liberal based and only benefits them and their causes.

This is the most depressing thing I have read in a long time.

Just remember, any of the NATO “allies” are much worse than this.

Putin thinks about this stuff and says to himself: forget the supposed inbalance in military capability, we can take these guys.

I’m sure Trump will want to change this PC crap, but it is likely that either Congress will block him, or the courts will.

If the US military is so far down the PC rabbit hole that servicemen get killed and nothing changes... I wish Trump every success but this may not be a salvageable situation.

I had rejoined the military and was in a unit set to deploy to ashcanistan, during the pre deployment briefings they told us we had to ask permission to shoot back if we came under fire.
A bunch of us were a little vocal about how retarded that is.

I ended up not deploying, but sitting in rear detachment instead.
Sukt big time.
Still disappointed about it.

I have been saying this since clinton and during the days of Jorge Arbusto and Dick "Help is on the way" Cheney.

I wanted to serve. But it would be either go crazy, and/or live with the guilt, or rot in jail/ get "taken out/lied about" after killing every non-American mooselimb piece of crap in my sight, including our "helpers" and entire buildings where they let the boy rapers roam free.

I agree and think that unfortunately what is required for this to change is for a critical mass of the REMFs and/or those dear to them to be injured/killed. The number of casualties for this to happen is likely to be much higher than many of us estimate because these REMFs do a very good job of shifting blame, to anything but their policies.

I’ll ask the same question I’ve asked since becoming a member here. Aside from protecting the heroin trade, why are we there? And a step further, why did Trump just send another 1500 troops?

The one blessing our troops had in places like Afghanistan and Iraq was close air support that was overwhelming. The Taliban really found out about AC-130 gunships and A-10s. That was the one thing that made “wait until they have taken the first shot” ROE bearable, IMHO.

Now we find out that Hillary, McCain, and Obama screwed that up by sending crap loads of Stingers to Syria that ended up in these other places killing our air support and putting an end to the one edge our troops had.

This goes back at least o Vietnam, probably Korea. We have brilliant, nearly unstoppable warfighting capabilities that are utterly wasted as are the lives that are given because the people calling the shots are big into self-righteous moral preening. They don’t care about victory, they want to look good for the reporters and the faculty lounge.

This is why I won’t let my sons come within a mile of a military career. Our military, for all its prowess, has been rendered pointless for the last fifty or sixty years.

God and the soldier all men adore in time of trouble then no more—when the shooting is over and all things are righted God is forgotten and the soldier is slighted.” True words written long ago, The ROE pressed upon those deployed serve a political end only. I suspect this Patriot Captain can expect to be treated as Mr. Allan West has been—or as Gen. Boykin has been .

‘This goes back at least o Vietnam,’

Toward the end of my tour things were starting to wind down and THEY started coming up with the craziest BS passed off as ROE.

I, and I know several fellow platoon leaders, came up with ways to get around this crap but at the same time we were engaging in courts martial level offenses. It was either that or risk our men.

Looking back on it, it was a hell of a burden to place on a young twenty-something LT.

To this day I despise lawyers and politicians and those who ‘want to make a difference’.

a set of politically driven rules of engagement that are getting our guys and girls overseas killed and hurt unnecessarily,

These policies started in earnest under one BJ Clinton and reached a zenith (hopefully) under Hussein 0bama. I'm praying that Trump and Mattis very quickly change this!

I think the CIC will have a profound effect, and so will Mattis even though he leans left he still loves the Corps. Promotions should be earned instead of politicized, too. THAT would be a 5-star general change.

Not going is heartbreaking, but for this Marine mom, every member of the military is important. Mine was infantry and I thank God for everyone who supported them. Especially the drivers of the trucks that went to his FOB and delivered goodies. I have the 2 laptops and tablet he got there. Still a little sandy but they are now family heirlooms. I’m using one of the laptops now.

Getting permission to shoot your weapon is disgusting. I believe Mattis changed that a bit, but of course, I don’t know the specifics.

Really. My kid said the flowers are beautiful but being around during Nam I always imagined that the Napalm should have been revived. Wouldn’t russia have appreciated that since so much of it goes there?

As for troops, ISIS, I think. Russia is supporting the Taliban against ISIS from what I’ve heard. Goofy garbage. Got a headache. Going out for a smoke.
