Upstate NY congressman raises record $585,000 after facing angry crowds

WASHINGTON -- The Upstate New York congressman who faced overflowing crowds of protesters at town hall meetings managed to raise a record amount of money after the protests gained national attention.

U.S. Rep. Tom Reed raised $585,282 in the first quarter of the year, a personal high for the fourth-term Republican from Corning.

Reed's cash haul more than doubled the amount raised by each of the other members of Congress from Upstate New York, according to new disclosure reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

"We are off to our best start ever with more than a half-million dollars in the bank and increased engagement from our supporters," said Nicholas Weinstein, Reed's political director.

Reed faced protesters at a series of town hall meetings in the 23rd Congressional District over the past two months, attracting national media attention as he held eight meetings while many of his Upstate Republican colleagues refused to meet with the public.

Reed used the protests to his advantage, sending out a fundraising email to those in the "silent majority."

"The past few months have seen liberals stepping up their attacks against us, trying to stop us from fulfilling our promises to cut regulations, create jobs and stand up for constitutional, limited government," Reed wrote in one email. "They have occupied our offices, flooded our Town Hall meetings and continue their weekly protests against our common-sense agenda."

Reed defeated Democrat John Plumb, a former U.S. Navy captain, in the November election, winning 58 percent of the vote. The 11-county district covers the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Western New York, including Ithaca and Tompkins County.

In other words, Reed stood up to the libtards in Ithaca, the City of Evil and was rewarded for it.

This should be a lesson for the weak sisters in the GOP surrender caucus.

Yep. There was a story a few months about how liberal activists from Ithaca/Cornell were busing them into other parts of Reed’s district to make it look like the otherwise conservative district all hated this guy.

*************

The silent majority wants the Silent Congress to get to work and pass Trump’s agenda. No more stalling and no more vacations. Produce or you’re out!

Reed is a big Trump supporter. One of the first in the NY delegation to endorse him back in the campaign.

Those “protests” were obvious street theater, given heavy and faux coverage in the region.

Keep screaming like idiots, keep waving Mexican flags, keep setting fire to stuff. More winning.

The “grass roots” protestors aren’t about to give anyone’s campaign a plugged nickel unless they see near perfect salvation and a ton of gimmes.

And Barack isn’t running.

I have to ask: what does your post have to do with the article in question?

This is an article about a GOP congressman who openly endorsed Trump early on, who stood up to the left wing astroturf and who was rewarded for it.

This article is about money raised in the first quarter of 2017. Your link doesn't show 2017. Did you even look at your link?

It wasn't just in Ithaca.

Reed held a townhall in tiny Cherry Creek about five miles away from here in Chautauqua County and was screamed at for an hour by protesters brought in from Erie and Buffalo.

Of course, the "Buffalo News" only reported the screaming -- not where they were from.

Trump won my county 60% to 40%. There aren't many protesters from around here.

Answer: From what I have read, most GOP reps are facing astroturf rabble-rousing crowds sent in to dispirit them. So the “story” is that at their town halls, they face screaming crowds of protestors. While that may be a true accounting of the facts, IOW, accurate reporting by someone who might be on the scene as it happened, the protestors are not folks who would contribute to his campaign and never supported him in the first place. What little footage I have seen is of protestors who were screaming like stuck pigs because the rep advocated taking away their beloved 0bamacare; an illustration that this was not a GOP crowd, at least measured by scream volume.

That’s all well and good but I wasn’t implying this was a GOP crowd or even his own constituents. Quite the opposite, in fact.

And this article is a good illustration that standing up to the Astroturf crowd can have rewards.

The Astroturfers and the MSM were trying to make an example of this guy and it backfired.

Pard, I live in his district. If push comes to shove, if his vote suddenly became a necessity, he’d vote with the open borders crowd. That’s why he’s there. By their donors, ye shall know them.
