Israel struck an arms supply hub operated by the Lebanese group Hezbollah near Damascus airport on Thursday, Syrian rebel and regional sources said, targeting weapons regularly sent from Iran via commercial and military cargo planes.

Video carried on Lebanese TV and shared on social media sites showed the pre-dawn airstrikes caused a fire around the airport east of Damascus, suggesting fuel sources or weapons containing explosives were hit.

Israel does not usually comment on any action it takes in Syria or the wider region. But Intelligence Minister Israel Katz, speaking to Army Radio from the United States, appeared to confirm Israel's involvement.

Not really. Anyone who says they’re not bad actors is wrong.

Those of us that want Assad to stay in power know the WORST actors are infinitely worse.

Christians were safe under Assad and Israel smashed the heck out of them on a regular basis.

Who do you think we can be lucky enough to have ruling Syria? A constitutionalist? :)

No, Saddam and Qaddafi and Assad were/are better than insane jihadists.

targeting weapons regularly sent from Iran via commercial and military cargo planes...

IS that a fluke or is Reuters admitting that Iran regularly sends weapons to kill Israelis to the Lebanese

In the past these attacks were carried out by glide bombs. They’re a type of cruise missile, but with no motor. They are launched from the Lebanese border so the planes do not overfly Syria.

(Incidentally, didn’t Russia said Israel’s days of freely accessing Syrian air space were over.)

There is one part of your statement I don’t get:

“Christians ................... and Israel smashed the heck out of them on a regular basis.”

When did Israel “smash the heck out of Christians” on a regular basis????

I’m having a good laugh at the moment. A few of my Liberal friends have been up in arms over how we have not done enough against Assad - in their view. Yet they will be crying foul over this attack by Israel - whom they are often attacking when they are not attacking Assad.

This almost certainly had to be another F-35I mission. Syria has serious air defenses, including Russian manned S-400 systems.

The putin/asshat air defense is so serious it didn’t knock down any of the TLAMs we fired into Assad’s chemical storage area.

So, when Putin described “legitimate opposition” and that they have met in Russia, Kazakhstan and Vienna; you are saying Putin invited Jihadists to negotiate. Thanks.

It can be argued but most sources will say the majority of refugees are fleeing Assad.

If one likes more Syrian refugees, then, the logic would be, support Assad. This war has gone on for 6 years and here, they are still fighting in the suburbs of Damascus.

It’s gotten to the point where as long as Assad is there, it looks like the war will continue.

This article explains fairly well Kurdish opposition, scanning the article, I don’t think he speaks of absolutely overturning the Syrian government and regime, he is open to negotiation. Assad however, looks like a bad actor who may eventually go into exile.

There have been Christians in the opposition too; the opposition does not consist of all wild eyed Jihadists who by the way, were no problem for Assad to support during the Bush 43 invasion of Iraq.

The little comment Oliver North has on the situation too; might be helpful to some.
