The officers condition is unknown.
According to 911 dispatchers, an active shooter situation was reported in the 200 block East Main Street in Kirkersville at Pine Kirk Care Center.
Kirkersville Elementary School is on lockdown while police investigate. A heavy police presence is still located at the school.

Shooter has been taken out.
This appears to possibly be a nursing home.
Maybe they shot the gun out of his hand.
Jeez louise. An officer killed in Arkansas, another injured in NOLA yesterday (IIRC), and now this.
Nusing home...OH...Drug deal/lab gone bad?
Just buried was Deputy Mark Burbridge, Pottawattomie County (Iowa) Sheriff’s Dept. on Monday of this week. Shot and killed 2 weeks ago by a convicted murderer during a court transport detail coming back from the sentencing hearing. Leaves behind his wife, 3 teenage children, and a LE community who will miss him very much.
God Bless all of those on the Thin Blue Line.
There have been reports of nursing homes being used for drug labs/deals. For folks in assisted living and for their loved ones, it’s a concern.
Lots of shooters. The shrinks have been hard at work.
A source at the hospital is reporting that the officer has died.
AMEN
We were just about to take our son to school when it went down. My son goes to 1st grade in the elementary school in that little town.
Here’s what I know:
1. The shooter more or less (from what is reported) picked off the Kirkersville police officer as he was staging at his car. The police officer died at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.
2. The shooter shot 2 people in the nursing home but there haven’t been any updates yet on their conditions. This was NOT, REPEAT NOT a drug deal. This dude approached the nursing home with the intention of killing people. The true motives are unknown, but the shooter (Thomas Heartless) has a aggravated Assault and Abduction rap sheet from Knox County in Ohio if the reports are true.
3. The school district uses a banding system where certain grades only go to certain schools due to over-crowding (long story that will be fixed soon). That means kids that go to Kirkersville or Etna or Pataskala transfer buses. The school system re-routed nearly 1,000 kids across grades K-5th on the fly in less than 30 minutes so they could keep clear of the situation.
4. Ultimately this may be a footnote, but we saw police and first responders from literally every community AND Columbus.
“...Drug deal/lab gone bad?”
More like an entire society/culture gone very, very bad.
Somebody's been watching the ORIGINAL version of DEATH RACE 2000
With a name like THOMAS HEARTLESS it seems like this guy was cursed from birth.
The officer responding to the call was the Kirkersville Police Chief.
He leaves behind a pregnant wife and 5 children.
Both employees at the nursing home have died as well.
Prayers to the victims and for the families of those affected by this senseless tragedy.
“Jeez louise. An officer killed in Arkansas, another injured in NOLA yesterday (IIRC), and now this.”
The Fraud is on the campaign trail raising big bucks....
Shouldn’t this be in Breaking News?
I tried to add it but kept getting the message “No such topic”.
Four confirmed dead.
The police Chief Steven Disario was a father of six with a child “on the way,” according to Thorp. He had been police chief for three weeks.
Tragic.
