Michigan House passes bills allowing concealed pistol carry without a license

LANSING, MI -- Michiganders would no longer need a concealed pistol license to carry a concealed pistol under legislation approved by the Michigan House of Representatives on Wednesday.

House bills 4416 through 4419 strike the requirement that a Michigander have a license to carry a concealed weapons. People banned from possessing firearms would be banned from carrying them as well. The bills also reduce penalties for certain infractions relating to carrying a pistol without proper identification or disclosure as well.

Rep. Michele Hoitenga, R-Manton, is a sponsor of one of the bills. She and other sponsors refer to the bills as "constitutional carry" in reference to the second amendment enshrining the right to bear arms.

"People who can legally own a gun should have every right to carry a concealed pistol without jumping through bureaucratic hoops and landing on a list," Hoitenga said.

Good. I don't expect a lot out of the RINOs in the state and our RINO Rick governor, but this is a start.

If they keep this up, it might be worth heading out your way.

More than a start. MI used to be a hassle to possess a handgun, and was "may issue" for "hunting and target" permit.

It used to (maybe still does, but I doubt it) require every handgun be presented to the local sheriff for inspection, and the owner was fingerprinted, and a permit was issued for possession of that weapon. 1980's era.

....Jones questioned why the right to carry a weapon should override the right of people to live their lives and feel secure....

This liberal Moron doesn’t realize that if someone really wants to carry a gun, they Will carry a gun. Regardless.
And he is in ignorance to the fact that with hundreds of thousands in Michigan already carrying with a permit that chances are that most everyday as he stands in line at the grocery store, drugstore, Walmart, or pumps gas that the person in line or across from him may well already be carrying a concealed firearm and he’s blissfully unaware of the fact. Liberals are emotionally handicapped idiots.

Why don’t we drop needing a license to drive a car?

Great. I mean if you pass a background check in order to buy and own a handgun then why the extra necessity of having to have a permit to carry concealed? Oh, forgot, revenue.

Thanks for the post. ‘RINO Rick’ Snyder may veto it, but hope springs eternal. This is what you get when the adults are in charge of all three branches of government.

This will go to court. The city of Detroit’s population is 677,116, breaking the 302 homicides down to 44.6 per 100,000 residents, giving Detroit still one of the highest murder rates in the country. And that’s just one city. Somebody is going to say something.

"Detroit still one of the highest murder rates in the country."

I had the misfortune to attend a science conference in downtown Detroit in the mid-1980's. Place scared the crap out of me far worse than pre-Katrina downtown New Orleans ever did. Also did some conferences in downtown Chicago in the same time frame, and the "vibes" weren't nearly as bad.

I may agree with you if you tell us why you ask?

It can be interesting when you examine “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” per the thoughts of natural rights.

Example- why do I need a hunting license to hunt for food? Why do I need a drivers license to move freely about while seeking to preserve my life, liberty and pursuit of happiness?
