Germany blasts new US sanctions on Russia as 'against international law'

Germany on Friday lashed out at Washington over new sanctions against Russia that target the planned Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Europe.

The new penalties, approved by the US Senate on Thursday, include a paragraph that threatens to penalize European companies that push ahead with energy export programs with Russia. Those include the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which would pump Russian gas under the Baltic Sea directly to Germany.

“It is strange that in the sanctioning of Russia’s behavior, with regards to the US elections for instance, that the European economy should become a target of American sanctions. That must not happen,” said Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert.

He added that Merkel shared the concerns raised by Germany’s Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel and Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern who charged in a joint statement Thursday that the measure brings a “completely new and entirely negative quality to European-US relations”. …

So, here you see German nightly news that hypes all this Russian interference business with the US election....and IF you tried to punish Russia....they get all upset? Biggest bunch of naive hypocrites in existence. Either there was Russian influence or there was NO Russian influence. If there is....you don’t stand around and do nothing. If there was no interference then just get on with life.

I thought all globalists and progressives hated Russia? I guess the German ones want to be able to pick and choose when and where they get to hate Russia

What were the sanctions against China when there was ACTUAL evidence that they illegally obtained thousands of Federal Employees records?

I forget.

But...but....Ms Merkel....You said Russia was terrible and called for all kinds of sanctions.

Is that a forked tongue I see?

Sanctions against Russia are idiotic and counterproductive but I also don’t care about what Germany says about international “law”. I’m really torn over this issue

Were the Germans asleep when Putin invaded Crimea?

Or did they think it was okay because of the ethnic demographics, just like when Germany reclaimed the Sudentenland?

Bizarre. These sanctions seem to have come out of left field, and were not favored by Trump or many in the administration, but were rather suddenly brought up for a vote which went 98-2, IIRC. I assume the GOP voted for it in a knee-jerk kind of way, hoping to demonstrate how anti-Russia they were.

Funny how the left loved Russia when it was the USSR but now that it is moving towards a capitalistic economy and is fighting back against Islam, it has become monstrous in their eyes. And they’ve succeeded in intimidating the GOP by implying that any rational approach to Russia equals “collusion.”

That’s ironic given that Nordstream 2 is a disaster for European security and every country between Germany and Russia was opposed to it. It’s clear the Germans can’t wait for a Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact 2.0.

We are even bigger hypocrites because we are the leaders of foreign election interference.

No one will ever convince me this is not about pipelines in Syria.

Why do people still think the GOP-e is ever “intimidated” by the other half of the Uniparty. This collaboration has been going on for well over half a century.

I agree, no need for sanctions against Russia.

Why are foolish Republican legislators putting sanctions on Russia?

They are only helping to give undeserved credibility to the democrats and validity to their fake accusations of Russian election meddling.

They love to give credibility to the other “side” of the Uniparty. Never mind the reaction they provoked from “Europe”.

“Why are foolish Republican legislators putting sanctions on Russia?”

Because most of them are neocon and Deep State punkhawallahs.

We have two rotted, anti-American parties. One is camouflaged while the other is brazen in its horror.

There is no reason to be torn. You can hate both.

The anti-Russian hysteria is our own domestic idiocy, and expression of drooling McCain dementia, but our problem.

The feeble but malevolent Fourth Reich’s mewling is their problem, daring to get into our sovereignty.

McCain’s rancid dags and uppity Hun globalists both need to be corrected.

Wait, are we sure there are sanctions tied to election influence. I thought all the sanctions were about Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine.

I think this is probably a bad premise.
