Sharyl Attkisson Interviews Chaffetz: Leaving Congress Because Of What Hasn't Changed

FULL MEASURE W/ SHARYL ATTKISSON: Just a couple of months ago, we profiled Congressman Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee which was poised to dig deep on wide-ranging investigations into government mischief, waste, fraud and abuse. A few weeks later, Chaffetz abruptly resigned from Congress. We asked the Oversight Man what changed his mind about being a lead watchdog with not only a GOP majority in Congress, but also a Republican in the White House. He told me it’s more a matter of what hasn’t changed. We started the interview with me asking how he told party leaders he was quitting.

Chaffetz said he has found things to be just the same or even worse since Republicans took control of Congress and, now, the White House.

"When I first started, they had Democrats who had the House and Senate in the Presidency. And that whole pendulum swung, but I'm telling you, in the first five, six months, I haven't seen any changes. And, and that's, that's very frustrating, You come to that point and say, alright, it's, it's time for a change," Chaffetz said.

Summary: gutless wonder talked tough but couldn’t wait to stick the knife in the back of his party colleagues, especially the new president.

He can now wear his knitted pink hat without restrictions.

Welcome to the uni-party. As longtime speaker of the house Sam (Mr. Sam) Rayburn would tell incoming congressmen, to get along you have to go along.

His blindness is dazzling.

I am kind of wondering that also.

If there is something else, behind the scenes, I would have thought he would have just disappeared quietly.

So, either what he is saying is the true reason(s).
Or, he is making a big fuss in anticipation of his new job at Fox News and to position himself as THE analysis guy.

He did a disservice to the people that put him in office.

They supported him financially. They campaigned for him. And they voted for him.

We don’t need clowns like him in DC.

This makes me skeptical that the President can really make any difference, especially in terms of another Atkisson story 3 weeks old, the Price of Power, which shows that everything Jack Abramoff said in the mid 2000s has now come to a sewer-smell ripeness — the best little pudenda palace on the Potomac. http://fullmeasure.news/news/cover-story/price-of-power

There’s a lot of obstruction going on, and it’s not Trump who’s doing it. His complaints might be better served if he stayed in congress and helped the president drain the swamp. I mean, if that’s really the reason he’s quitting.

Wild Alex Jones type speculation is generally not encouraged here at Good Old FR. OTOH an exception needs to be made in your case since I am 99% certain that you have nailed it.
