Back in the late 80’s early 90’s I had a friend who opened up a non-union coal mine in eastern Kentucky. He as a Vietnam vet and saw heavy combat with lots of wounds, later he was a “company” employee after retiring from the army and government service.
One morning he was coming into work and noticed as he pulled up his employees were starting to get in their trucks to leave and he got out and said what the hell is going on here? Then some fine UMWA goons stepped forward and told him his employees were taking the day off to think about joining the union, did he have a problem with that in a menacing and intimidating stances.
He replied I didn’t get shot multiple times and nearly die to be told how to run my company by a bunch of *&&%^&^%^&^%$%$## like you. If you want to go the route you are threatening we can. I can drive in here and out of here shooting as I drive each morning and I can guarantee I will give more than I get and I can find out where each one of you lives! Now you *&^%$###%&** get the hell off my work site and you better not show up again messing with my employees and then looked at his employees and said get the hell back to work and ignore these wussies. The UMWA goons left and never came back. He had a reputation for following through on a threat if you forced him to make one.
