Early Sunday, a gunman opened fire during a fight in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, injuring several people in the crowd that had gathered to watch. The incident was streamed on Facebook Live.

According to Myrtle Beach Police, officers were dispatched to the area shortly after midnight where a fight had broken out in the midst of a large crowd that had gathered. One of the individuals involved in the altercation drew a gun and fired. An armed security guard intervened and shot the gunman, who carjacked a vehicle and escaped as he sprayed gunfire.

Myrtle Beach Police Lt. Joey Crosby reported that police cruisers and ambulances immediately responded to the scene. Officers also located the stolen vehicle and arrested the suspect. No officers were injured in the incident, although a patrol car was damaged by gunshots.

Several people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Video of the incident remained on Facebook as of Sunday afternoon.

“Social media today puts this word out quickly,” Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said on Sunday.

The shooting marked the third in Myrtle Beach within eight hours.

“It does not look good for the city of Myrtle Beach. We’re gonna send a message to do everything that’s humanly possible to stop this violence in our city,” Rhodes said. “I’m sorry for our city that this happened.”

But not holding a huge festival of troublesome folks in your town is not humanly possible, huh?

I can’t help but notice all the participants appear to share a common characteristic.

Hm. Looks like South Africa. In the USA. The only thing missing was Winnie Mandela’s rubber necklace and the dragging of the burning body behind a pickup truck.

By that I assume you are referring to the high levels of melanin in their skin coloration.

I live in SC, if I go to the beach I drive all the way to Destin Fla.. That should tell you something about Myrtle Beach...

Myrtle Beach is just as bad as Anderson and Spartanburg cites...

Myrtle Beach was nice...20+ years ago. I used to go once or twice per year. Then I saw the gradual changes and never went back.

Unless you’re in North Myrtle at a gated resort, it’s a ghetto armpit.

It’s a beach resort. I think they had to shut it down for a couple of seasons a few years ago because of this crap happening at spring break. Our beach had a really bad spring break and summer and the rules got changed and subsequent years have been less exciting.

"Myrtle Beach is just as bad as Anderson and Spartanburg cites.."

Yeah, Spartanburg pretty much has no go zones after dark. Feral youths and assorted gang bangers of all ethnicities. I just spent some time around Lincoln County, Ky which is farm country. Did not even feel safe there with the meth heads running around.

Uh oh, MB and SC really crack down during Black Bike Week and have more or less gotten things under control and managed to avoid major legal issues. Trying to keep a lid on things for the whole summer is going to break MB.

I’m an SC resident myself and I avoid those areas whenever possible.

We’re in NMB right now in a gated resort. It’s been two years since we were at this one.

I thought the guard shack up front with the 24hr guard was new... looks like it was thrown up overnight. There’s a sign at the exit gate that was printed off a Deskjet printer, inserted in a clear plastic folio, and hung on the wall of the shack...says a sensor will raise the gate.
