Dems begin to panic as Trump set to transform federal judiciary
The American Thinker ^ | 06/23/17 | Thomas Lifson

While Democrats obsess over the Russia hacking fantasy and Robert Mueller as Trump's Javert, President Trump, the Federalist Society, and Senator Chuck Grassley are on the way to making the federal judiciary great again. The Huffington Post noticed and is worried:

Trump is unbelievably well positioned to fill up federal courts with lifetime judges. He inherited a whopping 108 court vacancies when he became president – double the number of vacancies President Barack Obama inherited when he took office.

The reason Trump gets to fill so many seats is partly because Obama was slow to fill court vacancies early in his tenure. But the main reason is Republicans' yearslong strategy of denying votes to Obama's court picks. They refused to recommend judicial nominees, filibustered others, used procedural rules to drag out the confirmation process and, by Obama's final year, blocked nominees they had recommended just to prevent him from filling more seats.

Yep: Sometimes the Stupid Party actually does its job.

Elections have consequences, and when voters handed control of the Senate to the GOP, Senator Grassley – the very opposite of a showboater – did his job as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee with skill. Now he is poised to capitalize on that control, using the Dems' "Reid Rule" that abolished the filibuster for judicial nominations, and will supplement it with another reform that will prevent Dems from obstructing appointments to the Circuit Courts of Appeals:

[Senator Grassley] is under pressure from conservatives to do away with the committee's "blue slip" rule, which requires both senators from a nominee's home state to turn in blue slips of paper in order for the nominee to get a hearing.

Senators are typically involved in the judicial selection process, so it's rare for them not to turn in a blue slip for a nominee from their home state. But if Trump is nominating judges based on what The Federalist Society recommends, for example, blue slips allow Democrats in the Senate to block those nominations indefinitely if they are appointed to courts in their home states.

Grassley has suggested he may not require blue slips for circuit court nominations.

Getting rid of the Blue Slip rule would be huge. As long as Blue Slips are required we will never see any sanity inserted on the 9th Circuit. California, Oregon and Washington would never, ever allow a real constitutional conservative to pass.

Maybe there's hope for the Federal Judiciary yet.

It’s called winning elections. Glad to see the panicky little hate mongers upset.

Better hurry before someone changes their minds. Well past time to clean the judicial house and install people with common sense instead of bought and paid for judges.

As it’s widely known, the 9th needs to be broken up. No reason for that to have so much sway over things.

I hope there is reason for them to panic.

I hope they panic.

I hope they choke on their panic.

I hope and pray. Only, it worries me that so many of our appointees wind up being infiltrators or at least enablers for the left. I’ve never heard of the opposite happening, not in the judiciary (which is where they really squeeze us, because we don’t elect those jokers). Scalia was a once-in-lifetime true-blue conservative.

I'm hopeful, but with all the RINOs and Never Trumpers, I'm skeptical that President Trump will be able to fill these vacancies without a fight.

But the main reason is Republicans' yearslong strategy of denying votes to Obama's court picks

The only reason a Republican would block these nominees...they would not follow nor protect our Constitution, they prefer Social Justice rather than Law, they would throw our judicial system out the window when it came to Sharia Law....Social Justice is communism...spreading the wealth and all the perks that go with that except there aren't any.

“Trump’s Javert” LOL.

The parallels with Les Miserables are too many to count!

Javert’s obsession with Jean Valjean, and his total ability to understand GRACE leads to his suicide.

Valjean could have led a cushy life in his old age, having accumulated much wealth, and successfully gotten rid of his “past”. But he risks it all in order to rescue Marius.

There are many more parallels, but these are the two that came to my mind right away.

I agree with you on every other part of President Trump's agenda but I think appointing conservative judges is something even these a-holes will on on board with.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. That would solve a lot of problems.
