Chief Justice Roberts “Swimming In the Middle"
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/27/2017 7:03:57 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Appearing on today’s Morning Joe, law professor Jonathan Turley noted that Chief Justice John Roberts teamed with Justice Anthony Kennedy to devise an exception to the Court’s ruling of yesterday that permitted President Trump’s travel ban to remain in place. Under the exception, the ban does not apply to foreign nationals with a “bona fide” relationship with a person or entity in the United States.

Turley said that as of late, Roberts has been “swimming a lot in the middle of the pool,” has become very Anthony “Kennedy-like,” and would become the new swing vote should Kennedy retire.

On a scale of Republican Supreme Court appointments from 1-10, where 1 is David Souter and 10 is Scalia, what is John Roberts?

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.

I’ll probably see the old queen up in Port Clyde, ME this summer where he swans around in his summer whites and a little matching hat.

If Kennedy and Ginsberg retire during Trump’s administration, a “swing” vote will be useless.

Roberts has proven that he can be blackmailed. We need a new Chief Justice.

Roberts cannot read, and pretends the Court is the
legislature.

HOW MUCH is he afraid of being murdered
like the other Justice,
like the other witnesses,
like the other DAs,
and like Seth Rich?

“If Kennedy and Ginsberg retire during Trump’s administration, a “swing” vote will be useless.”

And if Souter goes as well, Roberts can bide his time taking cooking lessons from The Wise Latrina (tacos) and the Fat Yenta (matzo balls). The Court will function without the three of them.

Chief Justice John Roberts has proved to be a disappointment. It becomes more obvious, on an almost daily basis, that he has been compromised and cannot perform his duties as Chief Justice in a fair and impartial manner.

Obamacare should NEVER been renamed a “tax”, for one thing, and should have been declared unconstitutional right at the beginning. That this did not happen that way, does not establish the premise that Obamacare is constitutional even now.

With an odd number of members there will always be a swing vote.

Roberts is a 3 at best.
What a disappointment most of the Bush appointments have turned out to be.

I saw someone being interviewed last night who indicated that the ‘bona fide’ relationship exemption was part of the Trump plan to begin with (???)

Roberts is just the latest in a fairly long line of disappointing republican SCOTUS appointments.

But he probably holds the record for the quickest turnaround from someone praised as a constructionist to just another faithless jurist inventing loopholes and ways to fudge the constitution.

So lets hope he is the last to disappoint.

So many people are happy with the parts of the legislation that SCOTUS approved, they lose sight of the fact that the Supremes STILL legislated from their high perch. The law, used by multiple presidents, is very clear cut and has no exemptions unless provided for in the president’s determination.

I agree with him. I said months ago that when Kennedy retires Roberts would become the swing vote. Kennedy took Sandra Day O Connors place as swing voter. I could already see Roberts positioning himself

We can eternally thank Jeb Bush for foisting Roberts off on Dubya. He literally talked 43 into appointing him.

Roberts is a solid... 2. From what I’ve seen, on all the important issues you can almost count on Roberts going squish and siding with liberals. Honestly, he seems to be morphing into Kennedy.
