Last November, Japan’s Environment Ministry issued a stark warning: the amount of solar panel waste Japan produces every year will rise from 10,000 to 800,000 tons by 2040, and the nation has no plan for safely disposing of it.
Neither does California, a world leader in deploying solar panels. Only Europe requires solar panel makers to collect and dispose of solar waste at the end of their lives.
All of which begs the question: just how big of a problem is solar waste?
Environmental Progress investigated the problem to see how the problem compared to the much more high-profile issue of nuclear waste.

Most of these solar panels degrade over time, with decreasing output.
25 year warranties mean nothing when the company producing them goes out of business.
Environmental progress has a deep price so much of being worth it.
I’m wondering where all of the batteries in these electric cars are going to go when their useful life is over.
To some enormously toxic recycle facility. Or, dumped in the desert someplace. Some probably in Irish Bayou off Hwy 11.
Some how the radioactive waste flooding the Pacific from Fukashima seems a million times worse than a pile of broken solar panels. But then I’m not a politician.
I had a liberal golf buddy when I lived in Arizona, that was bragging about his new home that was powered by solar panels. When I started asking about the costs versus return, his eyes glazed over.
It cost him over $50,000 to install solar panels on the house. At the current rate of electricity in Phoenix at the time, it would have taken him over 40 years to recoup his cost of the installation.
Not to mention the maintenance and replacement of the system after the Arizona sun literally baked everything on his roof. Solar panels need regular washing in the dusty desert of the southwest. Parts and entire panels would need to be repaired or replaced several times, long before the 40 years was up.
In the meantime, I just paid my $180 electric bill every month, knowing that I wasn't taken in by the liberal idea that solar power saves you money. I was light years ahead financially than he was when it came to comparing his costs of his solar energy versus my monthly electric bill. He was spending a dollar to save a nickel but that concept never took hold in his liberal head.
As a liberal, he remained smug in his assumption that he was doing the right thing to save the earth and prevent global warming with his huge financial outlay of money. Being a conservative, I looked at him as a fool, taken in by the scam of global warming perpetrated by the Left.
And don't get me started on the waste of energy to have wind power.....
Not just that, but the battery production factories are toxic - Quebec has a huge problem with its facility.

These processes have to regain not only cobalt, nickel, copper, and aluminum from spent battery cells, but also a significant share of lithium.
In other words, battery recycling is just starting and has a long way to go, especially for Lithium batteries.

Yup.... the life span of a panel is aprox 25 yrs so before he recoups his cost he will be replacing the panels with new and pay to get rid of the old.
So does he do them all at one time or wait for them to go 1 at a time and up his maint cost?

Then, below them, are tiny, itty bitty Oil Pumps, just pumping away.
The footprint of those Windmills is massive, those things are hundreds of feet high. I can't imagine what happens when one of them breaks.
Yet, the oil rig is only slightly bigger than my den I am sitting in now and to the cows there it is no more dangerous than if it was a big bolder.
Correct and you know there is something to it when my local scrap yard gives me 5 bucks for a lead acid.

I got to be friends with a National Guard guy, when I was a contractor in Iraq, whose job in the US was at a hazmat disposal facility. He said that all the electric car batteries are nothing but toxic chemicals/elements that are a pain to dispose of. But libs don't care, because it's "clean" energy. Idiots.

I just read recently that the amount of CO2 that is emitted in the manufacture of batteries for Teslas and Nissan Leafs, equates to about eight years of operating these vehicles if they were powered by IC engines. And that’s only the emissions created at the time of manufacture of the batteries themselves. Today, absent an abundant nuclear power generation source, electric cars are a net loss insofar as hydrocarbon emissions are concerned because the electricity they consume comes largely from fossil fueled power plants, coupled with the transmission losses that occur to get the power to the plug to charge them. My son has a Leaf he uses for commuting. He must “plan” his trips so he can get to a place to charge the little bastard when it needs it.
