TimeWarner May Have to Shut Down CNN Before the Merger of TimeWarner and ATT Takes Place

There is an interesting deep story to the internet war on CNN.

TimeWarner is the parent of CNN. But TimeWarner is much, much more than CNN.

The corporate giant also owns HBO, TNT, the film studio Warner Bros, DC Comics, (10% of Hulu), Time Inc., AOL, Time Warner Cable, Warner Books and Warner Music Group--among various other media entities.

The theme that ties them all together is that they are all businesses oriented toward the consumer. That is, the types of businesses that are vulnerable from many directions to the type of internet attack that has been launched against CNN.

Here's the $85.4 billion kicker.

AT&T Inc has announced an $85.4 billion deal to buy Time Warner. The merger is currently being reviewed by the Justice Department.

AT&T Inc. is another very heavily consumer-oriented business with its cell phone business and other cable, telecommunications and digital entertainment services.

If AT&T buys Time-Warner including CNN, then I’ll dump AT&T. I don’t want any part of CNN, and I’m sure many many others will also dump AT&T.

IMHO, both AT&T and Time-Warner are too big now.

IMHO, we should be discussing “trust-busting” — not competition-stifling “mergers”.

To see cnn shut down would be schadenfreude on a galactic level!

The msm would FINALLY get the word we are through with fake news.

CNN would be a very toxic asset that AT&T doesn’t need. Time to re-negotiate the deal with TW.

I’m not so sure. ATT is famous for pouring their earnings back to their shareholders. And they have been paying it back as a pretty nice 5% or do dividend for quite some time.

These guys aren’t stupid. They are much more likely to start firing people at CNN than they are to go with the crappy status quo.

Given the new direction of Fox under the Murdoch boys the fake news crew might just end up on another channel.

“I’m sure many many others will also dump AT&T.”

We’ve been on the verge for a few months now. This would be the trigger to finally pull the plug.

“CNN would be a very toxic asset that AT&T doesn’t need. Time to re-negotiate the deal with TW.”

Or better yet they could sell it to someone who might be a conservative. Then again “conservatives”with that kind of money are usually feckless as all get out. But at least it would be gone from Time Warner.

DoJ can impose restrictions on mergers. They could require TW to divest or sell CNN if they wanted.

But shut down CNN? Uh ... that is not gonna happen because of some merger. In any event where is the quote from someone in power saying this might happen? It doesn’t exist. The guy just made up this crap.

Fake news. Apparently even the Right is infested with it.

I have a strange idea for new channel: report news and facts and tell the anchors and reports if you can figure out their biases they will be fired. Have 60 minute/Frontline programs investigating issues in depth and haver the same standard. Do a sports report three times a day for half hour and weather every hour at 55 minutes after.

You’re right, they’ll just sell CNN off to some equally nutjob Leftist organ.

AT&T will likely sell CNN if the deal goes through and we make enough noise. Don’t drop AT&T yet , hold your fire.
