Power Outage Cancels Fourth of July Events on USS Hornet
NBC ^ | July 4, 2017 | Staff

A power outage Tuesday affecting west Alameda caused the cancellation of Fourth of July festivities at the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum, according to the museum's Facebook page.

The museum's post said: "Due to the continuing power outage that is affect the west side of Alameda, today's Fourth of July event has been canceled. Guests may receive a rain check from guest services during normal business hours or by contacting info@uss-hornet.org. We sincerely apologize for this unforeseen inconvenience."

Earlier Tuesday, when the power went out, the museum evacuated guests as a safety precaution, the museum said.

Among the festivities, the USS Hornet had scheduled live musical performances on the flight deck of the former carrier.

There was no word as to the cause of the outage or when power would be restored.

I do know the US grid is subdivided into regions (as per the name grid). Furthermore, it is possible to knock out portions via nature, act of God or sabotage/terror. My conclusion is that the grid is VERY vulnerable. Could a computer virus knock out a portion of the grid? Could an EMP knock it ALL off line? Nevertheless, this country is not prepared and major upgrades are needed. Now is the time to do it because the Rats have zero interest in doing so.

Old Star Trek episodes were like Moody Blues songs; the good ones were really, really good. The bad ones really, really stunk.

Having said that, the USS Hornet and its significance is totally lost on the denizens of Oakland. Just MHO, but the navy should have kept the classic carrier names instead of politicians. Enterprise, Essex, Hornet, Yorktown, Wasp, Lexington. Yes, I realize Enterprise was only recently de-commissioned, and Lexington was a training ship out of Pensacola until the 1990s, but still...

>>That was the goofiest star trek ever<<

It is considered one of the best and probably saved the franchise. It had goofy moments but those were there b/c the prior movies had all been so damn self-serious that no one recognized the characters.

I usually despise time travel movies/episodes since it lazy, but I gave them a pass since it was so fun.

One hit to the bridge and it's out of commission.

Did I really go there?

You’ll be pleased to know that CVN-80, set to begin construction next year, will be christened USS ENTERPRISE.

There will always be an Enterprise.

I just looked at Wikipedia ...

The third American "Enterprise" (and I think the first to be a "USS") was involved in the Barbary Wars ... just another reminder that we've been fighting those filth for almost as long as we have been a nation.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
