I am sure it will surprise no one when they pass a watered-down version of Obamacare, while keeping it largely intact, so everyone can declare “victory” and hope those who want TRUE repeal & replace forget about it or simply shut up.
Don’t pass “something”. Pass repeal.
I’m disappointed in DJT in this area. Just wanting to pass “something” is very half-assed and not why we hired him. He’s a perfectionist and I don’t understand why he’d be OK with anything. Repeal 100% and take us back to pre-Obama years.
1. The end of the individual mandate.
2. The end of the employer mandate.
3. Allowing insurance carriers the option to offer low-cost catastrophic plans (which is what insurance is supposed to be anyway, isn't it?).
Item #3 is the single biggest one of all, because it gives the opportunity for insurance companies to develop plans that can offer lower premiums to their customers when the 2018 renewals go out later this year.

In regards to point 3, I asked a lib if they would pay $500 extra on their auto insurance instead of paying $5 to replace a break light. That said that would be stupid. I asked them why it was goood for health insurance.
They couldn’t answer that question.

I agree that both the senate and house bills are warmed over mush.
However, I believe the optics are as important as the substance.
1. The media and the never-trumpers will beat the president 24/7 if something isn’t passed. They WILL say Trump lied to the voters. Make no mistake. They will.
2. It is important to get rid of the name “Obamacare”. The value of that level of media victory should not be ignored. This socialist legacy must be taken down.
3. This will create momentum heading into tax debate and wall debate.
4. We must give the president breathing room to deal with North Korea. NOKO is the most important security issue facing the US since the USSR.
Perhaps DJT contemplates a veto (pocket veto, or otherwise) of any Bill that does not “replace and repeal”. Lots of procedural moves remain. When Senate “passes” its version, a Conference with the House is required to consolidate a final Bill approved by both House and Senate which is then forwarded to POTUS for his signature,(or not) or veto.
In many circles "Obamacare" has become a pejorative. When the new pejorative becomes "Trumpcare" then is that really a win?
They can back door this POS in the tax bill. Thanks to the esteemed (joke) chief justice, O care is merely a tax so a tax can be repealed without some CBO meddling. Even if the mandate stays, as long as the tax penalties are removed, the law has no teeth.

I have decided since the Democrats will regain the Senate and House to kiss the Republican party goodbye.
With Collins, Murkowski, and Portman, along with all the other RINOs, does anyone think that a straight repeal bill would ever pass? It would not pass, not even close.
If they enact the reforms that are currently in the bill, it would effectively kill Obamacare. No individual mandate, no employer mandate, and no minimum essential coverages (i.e., you can buy whatever plan you want). This is a huge step in the conservative direction.

Perfectionist? Don’t kid yourself. He is a dealmaker. Has been a deal maker all his life.
On the campaign trail, President Trump seemed to be as clueless (imo) about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers as most voters evidently are.
As a consequence, Trump greatly underestimated the size of the corrupt, DC swamp that needs to be cleaned up imo, getting voters' hopes too high with some of his promises, not that he won’t be able to keep his promises. It’ll be later than sooner.
In fact, a president doesn’t have the constitutional power to single-handedly clean up Congress. It’s the voters who have that power.
That’s why patriots need to give Trump as much of a new Congress that they can that will support him in 2018.
In other words, while Trump is potentially one of the best presidents that the country will ever have, Trump’s first two years in office are arguably practice imo.
