One can't help but wonder if being threatened by Germany and its partners will have the desired impact on Poland.

Eastern Europe needs a third way. That would be Poland, Hungary, eastern Ukraine Romania, Bulgaria (did I leave any still sane country out?) that is a neutral bloc, a buffer between Russia and the EU. That's the only chance to save some remnant of European civilization.
