The IDF said Thursday five battalions have been put on standby in the West Bank in light of the high tensions on the Temple Mount.
After three Israeli Arabs came out of the Temple Mount complex armed and opened fire at an Israeli police force, killing two of the officers, Israel added metal detectors and security cameras at the entrance gates to the holy site to prevent the smuggling of more weapons inside.
The added security was met with strong objection from the Palestinians, Israeli Arabs, other Arab nations and the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf. They claim the move constitutes a violation of the status quo, according to which Israel controls access to the compound, while Jordan presides over its daily management.
The IDF has been reluctant to send reinforcement troops to the West Bank since the attack on Friday. The decision to put thousands of soldiers on standby was eventually made in light of concerns the clashes in the Temple Mount area would spread to the West Bank.
The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf is expecting large numbers of Israeli Arabs to make their way to the Temple Mount from across the country to participate in mass Friday prayers.
In an effort to stop the flood, however, Israel is considering preventing Israelis Arabs from the Galilee and the Negev from participating in the prayers, but many have already stated such measures will not succeed and pledged to go to the Temple Mount at any price. Additionally, many have stated their intention to travel to Jerusalem before Friday.
In a move apparently intended to whip up further hysteria at the compound and possibly instigate more violence, the Waqf announced Wednesday that all mosques in Jerusalem would be closed on Friday, thereby forcing thousands of Muslims from east Jerusalem to join the protests.

All of these problems with the Temple Mount go back to then Israel Defense Minister’s decision , after Israel was victorious after the 6 Day War , to return / keep the top of the Temple Mount in muzlim hands . After how many Israeli paras fought and died capturing it . The Israelis should have removed Dayan ( screw his ‘war hero’ status ) and kept the Mount 100% under Israeli JEWISH control .

And if they can close all those other mosques Friday, clearly they do not need them. They should be condemned as well.

Absolutely true. I can add only this: it is a shame that the moment was not seized to raze the Al_Aksa Mosque, and the Dome of the Rock, to the ground, and expel ALL Jordanian Arabs across the river to Jordan. All of these actions would not have added to Arab, or International, hatred of Israel, or the Jews, by 1/1000 of 1%...if at all. An opportunity missed.
I Absolutely agree, except that I would include ALL Arabs. If Israelis must protect themselves from Arab attacks until the end of time, at least make them start the attack from the other side of the border, and not the adjoining seat on the bus.

Yes , if those two structures would have been destroyed m in the course of the Six Day War , it would have been written up by history as just one of the sad effects of that great great Israeli victory . The Arabs attacked again anyway , in ‘73.
The Israelis could still stage a fake ISIS attack on both mosques and attribute it to those guys . Never too late ;^)

This will anger BlackLivesMatter and Progressives. LGBT and some womens advocates too. Intersectionality and all. Which works both ways. Were I to adopt the theory, it would instruct me that virtually all leftist pressure groups, and Democrats who support them, hate Israel, Jews and in most cases both. Conservatives, Republicans, police, hate a whole bunch of categories as well. Pretty much everyone but themselves.
