Food Stamp Use Falls to Lowest Level in Seven Years

Participation in the food stamp program took a dive to the lowest level it has been in seven years, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

USDA statistics on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation showed that 42,609,852 people in the U.S. took part in the food stamp program in fiscal year (FY) 2017, the lowest level it has been since 2010 when 40,302,000 people enrolled in the program.

Food stamp usage has been on a steady decline after 2013, when enrollment in the government program swelled to 47.6 million, the highest amount it has ever been since the program’s inception.

...

Georgia made headlines when thousands dropped off the state’s food stamp rolls after the state gradually rolled out food stamp work requirements starting in 2016. Other states such as Alabama soon followed, and more states are starting to find ways to decrease food stamp enrollment and increase employment.

At the federal level, lawmakers are working on legislation to take food stamp work requirements nationwide and reinstate time limits on how long recipients can receive benefits.

42.6 mil people is still too much.

More states need work rules like Georgia and Alabama. It can be done. State legislators just need to grow a pair.

Remember during the Obama Administration they were actually running ads encouraging people to apply for food stamps.

Take a look at these stats:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-22/heres-where-food-stamp-use-has-increased-most

I think that Nevada is an outlier, since virtually all of this is coming from the huge growth in Las Vegas and the consequent huge influx of Illegals. Take a look!

one of the reasons for high enrolment in food stamps is that businesses and charities have started using enrolment in food stamps as a gatekeeper on programs available for the poor. 10 dollar high-speed AT@T internet available if you have food stamps free cell phones if you have food stamps. need a new water heater installed if you get food stamps it can be done for free because most companies use the receiving of food stamps as proof of economic hardship.

Prolly illegals bailing from the program to sink further under the radar.

Speaking of food - I was at Walmart looking for some fried chicken from the deli, and there wasn’t any. So I looked in the refrigerated section and there was some there, with a time stamp so recent that it barely had time to cool.

Then I noticed they had put out some fresh, so I went back and noticed that the price was the same. I asked the employee how come, since most places put the leftovers in the frig section at a discount.

She said they do that for the EBT cards. They can’t buy food from the deli hot section. However, they can buy it from the refrigerated section and take it home to “prepare” it by heating it up.

That’s the kind of logic these government programs go by.

It’s the only store here that has organic non food, so I am liking it better. Still the other town’s stores have even more of the better stuff, but at least it’s a start.

I just hate to pick up something and see “made in China” no matter where it is- you know they are using that money to build up their military, and they think that this is their century to lead the world.

I was forced to buy a stock pot recently - at least it was made in India - not China.

If this were anything but Breitbart, the headline would be, "Trump cuts food stamps to the bone. Women, children, and minorities hit hardest."

I think so too. That and "self deportation."

So maddening. And I think they can use it in some drive thru restaurants in certain states.
So then they clog the drive thru lanes for paying customers.

What they conveniently ignore in the “reporting”... in 2007, there were only 26.2 million in the SNAP program (11.8 million households). The massive spike was entirely due to Obama’s open efforts.
