The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to slap new sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea, despite President Donald Trump’s objections to the legislation.

As voting continued, House members backed the measure by a margin of 388-2, with strong support from Trump’s fellow Republicans as well as Democrats. It must pass the Senate before it can be sent to the White House for Trump to sign into law or veto.

Senate leaders have not said when they might consider the House bill. The White House said the president had not yet decided whether he would sign the measure.

This has been on the radio for several days since the House and Senate reached a joint agreement on it. The radio report contended that the Russian sanctions were due to their interference in the U.S. elections. Thus, it gives the Democrats a lot of cover for an event with little substantive evidence. The Republicans should not have caved on this!

Does he really want the optics of looking like he is protecting Russia and then having his veto overturned?

I mean, it’s Trump. So he might.

But his veto would be overturned easily.

Does he have 146 votes in the House to uphold the veto?

The final vote was 419-3. A veto would be easily overridden. The Senate version passed 98-2.

Trump can use this bill to blow up the new Russian pipeline to Germany if he wants. And thanks to Congress his finger prints won’t be on it. LOL.

This is on the House. Trump can tell Putin his hands are tied, so lets move on to other things.

A possible pocket veto coming.

That all depends when this bill gets to Trump before the August recess. A pocket veto would do it.

The issue is the constitutionality of it. If it is the House initiating a bill giving them power to conduct foreign policy, then I doubt its constitutionality.

If its the House saying we can inotiate sanctions on a foreign country, then that sounds like conducting foreign policy to me.

Separation of powers, and that should be Trump’s point as his DOJ refers it to SCOTUS.

So now they are attempting to start a trade war with Russia based on no evidence.

These people are completely insane.

Nice to see congress has its priorities straight. That will teach Russia to continue not interfere with our elections. America would never interfere with an election of a foreign country
