Looking at the Republican party from an historic standpoint, I'm not sure that lowering the requirements to 50%+1 will really help. Does anyone out there believe that if they'd needed one more vote to block the Obamacare bill that one of the "Republicans" who voted for it's repeal would not have switched his vote? Whenever you see tight margins like this is is always a good idea to cast a wary eye on even those who voted for repeal, because we all know that very, very few can actually be trusted when the chips are down. Just because a senatecritter voted for repeal, it doesn't necessarily mean that it would have voted for it if their vote were critical.
President Trump baffles me sometimes.
1. Either he thinks that he has 51 votes for this incredibly dramatic change to Senate rules (which means he doesn’t understand the Senate), or
2. He’s just trying to humiliate the Senate (which seems like bad politics but what do I know).
At this point, may as well declare himself an Independent and go full-scale revolutionary.
