Ken Livingstone, a former mayor of London, has blamed the turmoil in Venezuela on Hugo Chávez’s unwillingness to execute “oligarchs” after he came to power.

“One of the things that Chávez did when he came to power, he didn’t kill all the oligarchs. There was about 200 families who controlled about 80% of the wealth in Venezuela,” Livingstone told Talk Radio.
“He allowed them to live, to carry on. I suspect a lot of them are using their power and control over imports and exports to make it difficult and to undermine Maduro.”

He’s taking the wrong message from Maduro’s murder of the Venezuelan economy. The so called ‘oligarchs were trying to correct the errors, crimes and tortures imposed by their government.
There you have it- liberal/socialist mindset in a nutshell.
They feel they should kill those who disagree with them.
Socialism means fairness for everyone, except for the ones they kill first.

The oligarchs, of course, kept Chavaz in power. He was their sword.

Perhaps Mr. Livingstone is looking for a job in the omelette industry.
Interestingly the Guardian plays it pretty straight when it comes to the cause of Venezuela’s catastrophe. They even use the S-word, which most US press outlets avoid doing.
My neighbor in FL, a refugee from Venezuela, would beg to differ.
His family, who were landowners and farmers, were ALL murdered by government thugs.
So at least some of the “oligarchs” were indeed “executed”.

Chavez made sure there were 201. With his family at the top of the heap. The Chavez family are billionaires now. Maduro doesn’t have Chavez’s charisma, so he dares not move against the family, his legitimacy rests upon the Chavez name.
There will always be 200 families controlling Venezuela. If he murders one family, or strips it of its property, another one takes their place. The new one will be the family of one of his generals, is all.
Socialist dictatorships are always oligarchies. Dictators have to take care of the people who protect them and keep them in power.
