Justice Department Blacks Out Talking Points on Lynch-Clinton Tarmac Meeting

We have begun to see how the Trump administration responds over time to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) queries, especially our requests regarding shady dealings in the Obama administration. We aren’t encouraged. One must wonder if Obama holdovers at the Department of Justice (DOJ) are still calling the shots, or whether President Trump’s appointees simply don’t care about battling government corruption and enforcing the rule law.

Here are the particulars.

The DOJ has refused to disclose the talking points developed by the Obama Justice Department to respond to press inquiries about the controversial June 27, 2016, tarmac meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The DOJ heavily redacted the documents under FOIA Exemption b (5), which allows agencies to withhold draft or deliberative process material. The blacked-out material centers on talking points drafted and used by Justice.

The agency produced 417 pages of documents in response to our FOIA lawsuit ( Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-00421) for:

One email exchange shows that Former Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik was brought in to assist with public relations issues on June 28, 2016, the day after the tarmac meeting. (Kadzik is a longtime friend of John Podesta and a Hillary Clinton donor, who was criticized as being conflicted when he was assigned as the Justice Department attorney to oversee the probe of Hillary Clinton’s and her aide Huma Abedin’s emails found on Anthony Wiener’s computer.)

Melanie Newman, director of the Justice Department Public Affairs Office, sent an email to Richard P. Quinn, former national security assistant special agent, and Michael P. Kortan, who is currently the assistant director for Public Affairs for the FBI, advising them she wanted to “ flag a story ” about “a casual, unscheduled meeting between former President Bill Clinton and the AG.” And she provides the AG’s talking points.

Lynch met privately with former President Bill Clinton on board a parked plane in Phoenix. The meeting occurred during the then-ongoing investigation of Mrs. Clinton’s email server, and only a few days before she was interviewed by the FBI. Lynch later admitted that the meeting with Bill Clinton “ cast a cloud ” over the Justice Department/FBI investigation.

A week after the tarmac meeting, FBI Director James Comey called Hillary Clinton’s actions “extremely careless” but did not recommend charges, and Attorney General Lynch ended the criminal investigation.

It is jaw-dropping that the Trump administration is blacking out key information about how the Obama Justice Department tried to spin Loretta Lynch’s scandalous meeting with Bill Clinton. President Trump should order the full and immediate release of these materials. In the meantime, our lawyers will work overtime to consider the option of persuading the courts to order the release of the information about this scandal.

Why doesn’t Sessions just tell the DOJ to produce unredacted copies?

My suspicion is that it won’t reveal much. All they were doing is tweaking the press release. There is surely more than just this to look at though. Maybe it’s not in writing. Unlike Don, Jr., the DOJ was smart enough not to put everything they were thinking into an email for all to see.

Actually, the most interesting part of this doc production so far is the fact that Lynch participated in the email discussion, using a fake name.

Precisely. Reading DOJ documents is above the US Attorney-general’s pay level?
Can anyone look at these things? (Besides their Obama holdover custodians/guards, of course)
Are they warehoused in some govt. archive with the Ark of the Covenant, the name of JFK’s real assassin and the notes on the Philadelphia Experiment?

Doesn’t it seem sometimes like we’re still hoping we win soon so we can get some stuff resolved on the spirit-soup-like skullduggery of the last 8 years?

I'm done with Sessions. He will not protect President Trump and President Trump does not order this ars to install a Special Counsel to investigate Hillary and her communists club of criminals. Done with both until they get off their ars.

Or they never turned over all the emails. We only have their word for this. Sessions has been a topic of much controversy lately. Why can’t he order this released? He is the AG. There is no conflict. The guts it takes is lacking. Trump should be ordering all information be released. There should be a full probe into L. Lynch’s fake email names but as many say “this could take years”. Investigations take time. BS. IT people could have all the information in a few hours, correlated, tabbed and ready for presentation.

If you notice, they were very selective in what they released. Other than these emails pertaining to the drafting of the press release, they only released emails that were already known to the press. Most of them were emails where reporters were on the email string.

Nothing will happen. The president himself has said the Clintons shouldn’t be prosecuted.

These documents can be underrated at moment by Trump and Seesions

They probably will be at the appropriate time.

If the documents were determined to be improperly redacted, those responsible can be terminated and possibly prosecuted.

This is race between the entrenched Obama and Clinton partisans taking down Trump, before he can lower the boom on them

Thanks for the heads up, V K.  I think we can assume that Sessions has access to these DOJ documents, even if they are not released to the general public via FOIA docs.

So I think it shows Sessions is waiting for the correct timing to release.

And once the boom is lowered, we can expect an endless barrage of negative news on Hillary, Lynch, Comey and the rest of the criminals.  So much evidence of wrongdoing will come out that it will blow RussiaRussiaRussia into smithereens.

And it's at that time that you, me, and Liz can safely break into HL's stash of unsalted chips, popcorn, and Pepsi's.  MAGA!

One of the sleaziest of the Clinton cronies is Sid Blumenthal, the most greedy bum ever seen in politics.

Sid crawled out of nowhere in the 90s, and continues to slither around, cashing checks from the Clinton Foundation and assorted US govt entities. An expose on this guy is long overdue.

Think Obama is mysterious? Take a gander at Blumenthal.

================================================

ITEM--At the same time Blumenthal was pushing Secy Clinton to all-out war in Libya, suck-up Sid was privately pushing his business interests WRT contracts with the "new" Libyan government — a government that would exist only after US military intervention in Libya that deposed Qaddafi.

ITEM--Blumenthal was engaged in massive conflicts of interest since he was simultaneously being paid by (a) The Clinton Foundation, (b) Hillary's 2016 organizers, and, (3) businessmen w/ interests in Libya.

If Secy Clinton knew all that, then her actions in circulating memos composed by Blumenthal were egregious. If she did not know, her recklessness is subject to US laws.

ITEM---to its donors---and to the world beyond---the Clinton Foundation hired Sid Blumenthal to..... (wait for it)..... "promote Bill's presidential legacy." That's what Sid was supposed to be doing for his $325,000 foundation salary.

ITEM---so if the Clinton Foundation Board of Trustees signed off on the Blumenthal hire without being appraised of the full scope of his duties....that would violate state laws and place the trustees in legal jeopardy.

==============================================

REFERENCES The implications of the Blumenthal revelations are huge, as the Washington Free Beacon points out:

<><> Among the newly revealed Benghazi e-mails were a pair of messages from July 2011 in which Blumenthal described efforts to secure Libyan government contracts for Osprey Global Solutions, a company in which Blumenthal has admitted to having a financial interest.

<><>Blumenthal warned Clinton that French companies were looking to scoop up security contracts from the Transitional National Council, the revolutionary government of the Libyan resistance, and plugged Osprey’s ability to be an American counterweight.

<><> “It puts Americans in a central role without being direct battle combatants,” Blumenthal wrote of Osprey’s TNC contract. He described his efforts in “putting this arrangement together through a series of connections, linking the Libyans to Osprey and keeping it moving.”

<><> Clinton forwarded that message to Jake Sullivan, her deputy chief of staff, and asked to discuss it later.

======================================

Clinton Foundation employee Sid Blumenthal had inside govt info and was constantly in touch w/ Secy Hillary.

<><> For public consumption, Sid was beng touted as a Clinton Foundation hire---the factotum hired to preserve Bill's pesidential legacy (cue laugh machine).

<><> Sid's emails show he had classified State Dept info almost verbatim (as confirmed by the NSA).

<><> How did classified info get into Sid's possession? Did he pass it on to anyone else?

<><> Blumenthal was urging Hillary to bomb Libya b/c he had profit-making business interests predicated on a new Libyan govt.

<><> Sid cunningly used scare tactics----telling Hillary that Obama would lose reelection if the US didn't bomb Libya.

Hillary passed on this information to Obama.....did O know it came from a person he banned from govt employment?
