Two days after his advisers said otherwise, President Trump said Thursday that he does plan to formally declare the opioid addiction crisis an emergency — as the commission he appointed to study the epidemic had recommended.
“I’m saying officially right now it is an emergency,” he told reporters at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., where he has been vacationing. “We’re going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the opioid crisis. We’re going to draw it up and we’re going to make it a national emergency.”
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who chairs the opioid commission, said in a statement he was grateful the president had accepted the recommendation.
“I am completely confident that the President will address this problem aggressively and do all he can to alleviate the suffering and loss of scores of families in every corner of our country. We look forward to continuing the Commission’s efforts and to working with this President,” he said.
Trump did not say what declaring a national emergency might entail, and didn’t mention the commission’s other recommendations, which were outlined in a draft report released last week and focused entirely on public-health measures to curtail an epidemic that killed more than 900 people in Philadelphia last year and is on track to claim another 1,200 lives by year’s end. The commission wrote that 142 Americans a day die of drug overdoses....

I know, strange isn’t it? Flights going in and out of that country for 16 years and the oddest heroin epidemic randomly happens.
The easiest solution is to over-regulate and crack down on those people who don’t abuse opioids.

This hits home for a lot of us, just back from a wake for my friend and neighbors son 27, he and my two sons were friends since they were 5 years old, across the street another neighbors son died last year. We need to institute the death penalty for drug dealers and the trafficking of such, we need to get serious!
exactly, I don’t know what true pain patients are going to do.
I am in exactly that situation myself.
Without going into too much detail, I have chronic pain issues that *cannot*
be addressed with surgery, NSAIDS, TENS or any other method besides narcotic meds.
They give me functionality and some mobility that would otherwise not be there.
My dosage is enough to be effective, but I never get a high or rush out of it.
And I am being told that because people who don’t need this stuff are killing
themselves with it, my life must radically change - for the worse.
And I’m madder than hell about it.

Are there drug dealers who are forcibly injecting lethal doses of heroin into people’s veins?
On the one hand it makes no sense to pour taxpayer money and resources into solving a problem that probably will never be solved with just money. Very few people get strung out on opiates without being complicit in their own demise.
On the other hand, I'm sure President Trump recognizes the idiocy of promoting America as a great place to do business when a disturbing portion of our working-age adults are regularly strung out on opiates.
Why did it require a Constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol, but not opioids or other drugs?
Oh yeah, the Constitution actually meant something 100 years ago.
Been on them for years and function well. I need them but don’t abuse them. I guess we can look into heroin if they cut us off. s/
If you’re serious about going after the REAL culprits, a lot of people at the DEA ,CIA and their Deep state masters will be in nooses.
No, the plan is to chase down the petty dealers, doctors and pain patients. All the political factions and the enemedia agree with this approach.
