Marco Antonio Reyes Alvarez, the undocumented Ecuadorian immigrant who has found sanctuary from deportation in a church downtown, might face a prolonged stay at First & Summerfield due to a new directive that limits the ability of members of Congress to halt removal orders.
Federal legislators have regularly introduced private immigration bills, which, if passed, would grant permanent legal residency to a person who entered the country illegally. More importantly, while the private immigration bills were being considered, federal agents at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) used to hold off on deporting the individual. If a U.S. senator was willing to stick his neck out for an undocumented immigrant, authorities would take that into consideration before kicking the immigrant out of the country.
But effective this year, agents are no longer waiting to see if a private immigration bill can pass both chambers and get Donald Trumps signature. Unless a committee chairman pens a letter, ICE will proceed with enforcement actions, regardless of a congressmans intervention.
That a last-ditch attempt Sen. Richard Blumenthals last-ditch to shield Reyes from removal might falter.
In a statement to the Independent, Blumenthal expressed outrage at the policy change.

Fine, Blumenthal. We’ll let the illegal alien criminal stay and deport YOU instead.
private immigration bill = bill of attainder = unconstitutional = where f is SCOTUS?
The 14th Amendment says ‘equal protection under the law’ so why should illegal aliens get different treatment just because they vote Democrat?
NO ELECTED OFFICIAL should be siding with illegal aliens against the citizens and the rule of law.
That includes President Trump.
DACA must end.
was this ijit elected to represent Americans or illegal aliens ???
It seems he works harder for illegal aliens than for the people of his district...
Fine, Blumenthal. Well let the illegal alien criminal stay and deport YOU instead.
I think we should deport 5 liberals for every illegal alien we allow to remain in this country.
Good! Deport all illegals; no exceptions.
Senator Stolen Valor and Senator Forrest Gump - how lucky we in Connecticut are to have them, and our governor, Last Place Malloy. Made Connecticut such a great place to live....Not!!
How sweet it is!
Kick ALL illegal invaders OUT! Deport them...seize their assets which were illegally obtained (all of them).
I see his outrage as simply an added bonus to the whole situation
Electing a known liar like Blumenthal does not speak highly of his district.
I have a counter proposal. If a Congressman’s unconstitutional bill of attainder fails to be signed into law, the Congressman immediately loses his seat, is expelled from Congress, loses all of his assets, loses his citizenship, and is immediately deported along with the illegal alien to the alien’s country of citizenship.
Or the Congressman could elect to be immediately hanged for treason.
I like that idea. In the case of Hollywood libs make it 1 illegal 10 hollylibs.
sucks to be a donkey.
Your question answers itself.
How about for every illegal alien we find, we reduce the amount of green cards/visas by 10 applicants.
He's a senator so his district is the state of Connecticut.
