The EU risks breaking up unless it overhauls a controversial rule allowing firms to send temporary workers from low-wage countries to richer nations without paying their local social charges, French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday.

“Some political or business circles seek to use the EU’s funds while at the same time developing a system of social and fiscal dumping,” he said in Bucharest during a whistle-stop visit to eastern and central Europe.

“This will lead to the dismantling of the European Union” if there is no reform agreement at a Brussels summit in October, he added after holding talks with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

“Public opinion in more developed countries with higher salaries will not accept the system in its current format,” he warned. […]

The so-called Posted Workers Directive has come under fire from wealthy nations like France, which argue that the rule amounts to “social dumping” in which payments to costly health and welfare systems are avoided. …

What’s the matter europe? Socializing the costs, and privatizing profits isn’t working out for you?

It sure is working out for the european elite and Soros crowd though.

Well, it’s only there to implement totalitarianism by stealth. Their treaties proclaim “respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter”, and that document they refer to is a clone of the 1936 USSR constitution.

Yeah, with Trump in the White House, all the money the European countries now are having to spend on NATO and the Paris Accords, is money they heretofore conned the US out of so they could spend their own money on their Socialist/Communist programs.

Screw all this “benevolence.” Since WWII, the rest of the world has been, happy to live off of American generosity, while all the while they cluck about how backward we are. Seems like cognitive dissonance on steroids that although they hate us, most of them aspire to living here. I am ready to bring back “fortress America” again and let all of them scratch for a living for a change. We don't owe them a f*cking dime, but they ALL owe us big time!

I don’t like Macron, and I’d rather see the regulatory dictatorship in Brussels reduced to ONLY direct free trade relations, without any writ over any other policies of EU members. So, I could say I’d rather see the policy stay in place and hope Macron is right - it will break the EU up.

However, on the policy itself, he’s right.

Leave a EU state, move yourself into another EU state, and every aspect of government social support comes out of the coffers of the EU state you moved to. It shouldn’t.

A person who moves from an EU state to a 2nd EU state should only be eligible for “social benefits” from the EU state they left, until they have lived and worked in that 2nd EU state for a period time set not by the EU but by that 2nd EU state they moved to. Each EU state receiving persons from other EU states would be able to adopt the rules that benefit their own labor market, being as restrictive or relaxed as they think THEY need to be.

I’d like to see the Brussels bureaucracy gone. It never needed to exist. That said, Europe does not need Berlin or any other city replacing it in that capacity either.
