It was May 2, 1948, when, according to a Baltimore Sun article from that day, “3,000” looked on as then-Governor William Preston Lane Jr. and Pelosi’s father, the late Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., spoke at the dedication of a monument to honor Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.

The article said Lane delivered a speech, and Mayor D’Alesandro “accepted” the memorial.

“Today, with our nation beset by subversive groups and propaganda which seeks to destroy our national unity, we can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson to remind us to be resolute and determined in preserving our sacred institutions,” D’Alesandro said in his dedication. “We must remain steadfast in our determination to preserve freedom, not only for ourselves, but for the other liberty-loving nations who are striving to preserve their national unity as free nations.”

He added: “In these days of uncertainty and turmoil, Americans must emulate Jackson’s example and stand like a stone wall against aggression in any form that would seek to destroy the liberty of the world.”

Stalinists lie. Always.

If these statues didn’t exist, her own ties to white political privilege wouldn’t have “proof”. She’s a “dynasty”.

Only reputable thing for someone in her position to do with the base screaming for #NoMoreWireStatues is to step down from public (taxpayer funded) life.

If the parties flipped immediately after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act into law, then I guess that means that, prior to the mid-1960’s, every tolerant, kindhearted person in America was a Republican, since Liberals tell us that every tolerant, kindhearted person in America today is a Democrat.

So let’s tear down every statue, and rename every school, street, park, etc, that was named after Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Harry Truman, Adlai Stevenson, and JFK.

This movement isn’t about slavery or the Confederacy.

It’s about increasing the power of the anarchists and the destruction of America.

They will increase their demands incrementally.

First the statues of the Confederacy, then those of Columbus, then the text books, then movies and TV.

The censorship on the internet has already begun.

Eventually they will demand control and censorship of every aspect of our lives.

The Democrats used tax dollars to put the statues up, maybe the Democrats should bear any costs the statues cause... riot police on OT...vehicles and equipment(tear gas balls)...National Guard presence if needed...Law suits from anything statue related...Removal of statue if it comes to that

"If the parties flipped immediately after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act..."

This is the most comical -- and insidious -- lie of all that gets told on the left. It's so hard to even grasp the logic.

So, let me get this straight:

The Democrats of the 60s, were SO pissed that LBJ signed the Civil Rights act that they switched sides...

...to the very party that wrote and supported the law they opposed.

The very premise of the argument is so ridiculous I can't imagine how it ever gained traction.

Lincoln was a Republican but if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know.
