Social Security fraud judge gets 4 years in prison

The Social Security judge who rubber-stamped more than 1,700 bogus disability applications as part of the largest disability fraud ring in American history was sentenced to four years in federal prison Friday.

David B. Daugherty left the Kentucky courtroom in handcuffs after Judge Danny C. Reeves rejected the government’s recommendation of a year in home confinement, and instead gave him the maximum time allowed on the charges he pled guilty to.

The judge also ordered Daugherty to pay $93 million in restitution to the government, according to witnesses in the courtroom.

Daugherty was part of the disability fraud ring orchestrated by Eric C. Conn, one of the country’s most prominent Social Security lawyers.

Authorities say the scam totaled $550 million in bogus lifetime payouts, which Conn submitted, along with fraudulent backup evidence, and Daugherty approved.

Good for Judge Danny C. Reeves for nailing crooked judge Daugherty with a max sentence over the DOJ recommended slap on the wrist.

The government’s recommendation makes sick! This is only the tip of the iceberg compared to the overall fraud, waste and abuse of government and by government. In the old days High Noon would be the last day of this thief’s life.

Excellent news. Keeping digging for corruption just like this, and grow the penalties gradually. Work it up to 10 years. Include the judges railroading Bundy and Arpaio.

Four years?

I would happily do four years in minimum security for a multi-million dollar payoff.

What a joke. Execute the bastard. With a spoon. THAT will put some fear into judges.

You may have a point except for this.

The judge also ordered Daugherty to pay $93 million in restitution to the government,

I doubt his swag came close to that amount.

Only four years? For fraud involving $93? Is this a joke?

Daugherty resigned as an administrative law judge after the scam was exposed in 2011, and has been living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where members of Congress were distraught to learn he still collected his pension.

Is $93 million enough restitution?

Every month for six years Daugherty's probably been collecting under the table--along with his pension--a hefty % of that $550 million from the bogus disability fraudsters.

How was he allowed to kick back in the sunny beach life of Myrtle beach for six years?

Four years seems like a very light sentence for so many felonies committed.

I agree.

The DOJ only wanted him to serve a year of home detention because of his plea bargain. This judge sentenced him to the max of what he plead guilty to.

The head criminal in this case is disability lawyer Eric Conn who skipped bail and is still on the loose. When he’s caught there’s little doubt he’ll be locked up for his remaining years.
