It didn't have to.

The US Constitution gives the president broad power to issue pardons and commute sentences, and there is no law requiring the president to consult with the Justice Department. President Trump is not the first president to issue a pardon that didn't go through DOJ ...

Obama pardons the traitor Manning and dead silence from the media unless it was praise. Trump pardons a patriot and there is screaming all around. Let them scream.

This is not an anti-Trump article. In fact, it mentions Bill CLinton’s pardon of Marc Rich.

Yup, nothing about the Rapist in Chief pardoning all kinds of slime, and nothing about Dorkbama the Muslim quota boy eunuch pardoning additional slime.

We don’t fit the term “racist”, but progs DEFINE the term asswipe.

Requests for pardons usually go through the Justice Department because the President will typically get hundreds of requests each year. There is absolutely nothing that prevents the President from bypassing that process and issuing a pardon to anyone he wants to.

Obama didn't pardon Manning. He commuted what was left of his sentence. There's a difference.

I am so sick f how the news is portraying Sheriff Joe. He is not a racist, he is not a law breaker, he upheld the law. He did not infringe on citizens, illegal aliens are NOT citizens

Buzzfeed won’t get a break from me! They are either desperately attempting to be relevant after decades of betrayal to truth in journalism or trying to rein in their crazed party!

The DOJ wasn't even created until 1870.

Need I remind folks that Buzzfeed published the left’s smear dossier on President Trump?

They are a propaganda site for the global communists!

https://www.justice.gov/pardon/frequently-asked-questions-concerning-executive-clemency#Can%20the%20President%20make%20clemency

...Can the President make clemency decisions without receiving a recommendation from the Department of Justice?

The regulations contained in 28 CFR §§ 1.1 thru 1.11 are advisory only and for the internal guidance of Department of Justice personnel. They create no enforceable rights in persons applying for executive clemency, nor do they restrict the authority granted to the President under Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution...

I still fail to realize what Sheriff Joe did wrong. It seems to me charges need to be brought up on those who railroaded him which includes the judge. The left used the law as a vendetta.

and there is no law requiring the president to consult with the Justice Department

There couldn't be because the Constitution grants the power to the President solely and exclusively.

Hard to pardon someone who pled guilty. Maybe the President will commute the remainder of his sentence?

Asswipe is something I have always considered to be toilet paper, toilet paper has a use and is a valuable commodity.
What I have always called Lib/Prog/Socialist/Communist/Nazis is SH!TSTAINS, a more appropriate description I think.

There is a difference between a pardon and a ‘GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD’. The latter usually happens only in Monoploy or to Democrats.
