American Obesity Report: 1 in 3 Adults Are Beyond Overweight
Chicago Tribune ^ | 9/1/17 | John Raby

While a third of American adults and one in six children are obese, a report Thursday suggests the rate of increase could be stabilizing in some states.

Citing statistics collected by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the report by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation said West Virginia had the highest obesity rate at 37.7 percent. Mississippi was second at 37.3 percent and Alabama and Arkansas were tied for third at 35.7 percent.

The report says the adult obesity rate increased between 2015 and 2016 in Colorado, Minnesota, Washington and West Virginia, fell in Kansas, and was stable elsewhere. Colorado had the lowest rate, at 22.3 percent.

This is the first time in 14 years of conducting the annual report that any state's rate dropped, and rates of increases in other states have begun to slow, Trust for America's Health President and CEO John Auerbach said.

The weight charts are ridiculous. According to them, my 6’-2” body would need to be around 179 lbs to NOT be considered “overweight.” I’d look like a holocaust prisoner.

They keep changing the charts.

Usually, it seems, to push some drug on you.

Plus, my doctor’s nurse weighs me in the hallway, winter shirt & sweater, belt, steel-toed boots.

Then at the end of my problem-free exam, my weirdo doc waves a finger at me: “You could stand to lose a few pounds.”

Right.

Colorado had the lowest rate, at 22.3 percent.

Which is amazing because they're all sitting around smoking pot and getting the munchies.

In 1969 the Army put me in the best physical shape I had ever been in...and the best I've ever been in since.Six feet tall,170 pounds...able to do 40 pushups,40 pullups, run a mile and a half with full field gear.

Today,I'm 30 pounds heavier and have two metal hips. But I'm determined to lose weight now that I just got a new hip.

The less I weigh the fewer blood pressure meds I'm on.

I eat plenty of protein and low carb foods - for the most part - and I do daily exercise.

I’m not a middle-aged male with a beer belly. Men who don’t take care of themselves aren’t attractive!

I look and feel better than I did in my 20s!

But don't forget the coke and the meth...they curb the appetite quite effectively.

Chubbies are susceptible to heart attacks.

When you get one, its time for a change of lifestyle.

If you plan on living a long time.

My father has been around 6 feet 220 most of his adult life. Now at 80, he is probably 5’9” and 180.

My father is law was 5’9” 150 his entire life. Died at age 73 of Lung cancer.

I’m a big believer an extra 20-30 lbs is healthy. Now an extra 100 lbs is too much.

Time to shut down the era of low-fat. It’s time to do low-carb. Forget the food pyramid. Avoid sugar.

Problem is they’re not differentiating weight between fat vs muscle. I’ve been exercising all year (Apple Watch rings closed daily all year! yay me!), but my weight has hardly changed - yet people have commented on me being thinner. Dense muscle can weigh the same as fat, uh, fat but is certainly healthier and easier to carry around.

She’s got to be mentally ill not to cover that up.
But virtually all morbidly obese people have psychological issues.
