A Democratic source tells us: "[T]he sequence was GOP pushing for 18-month debt [limit increase], then 12, then 6, then Trump cutting them off and agreeing with us on 3. ... The Oval Office spins fast in Trump's White House."

Can the leadership be shamed into acting like Republicans/conservatives? Time will tell.

However, I did warn some of my rabid Trump supporter friends that his track record is not that of a conservative, and pray your pet goals do not find themselves in his crosshairs.

Just get rid of the debt ceiling. That ceiling is a farce.
The Chuck and Nancy show was a pure Trumpian move. It was time for a broadside against the RINOs. We now return to our regularly scheduled conservative agenda.
Trump tried over and over again to play nice with the GOP.
It got him nowhere.
Trump now has the GOP’s attention.

Republicans have "less than ever to show their voters" for reasons that have nothing to do with yesterday's three-month government spending bill. They walked into that meeting with nothing more than a parade of squandered opportunities from the last seven months to show their voters.
In other words, yesterday's deal didn't matter at all ... except that it reinforced the idea in the minds of most Americans that the Republicans in Congress are useless piles of sh!t.

Debt Ceiling was a non starter, by all but the complete foolish... No one is going to put the economy at risk when they know a comprehensive budget deal isn’t going to happen before the deadline....
I have faith that Trump will get tax reform done, and it likely won’t be “perfect” when viewed by either end of the political spectrums purity tests, but if he gets the taxes lowered and simplified like they need to be, that will be a good thing...
Until something is actually passed and ready to be signed, all the rest of this is just white noise.
Munchkin is a rino. Trump is wise to roll over him also. The Rino’s wanted to get past the elections so they can continue to block our Trump Agenda.

Basically, the GOP was trying to make Trump irrelevant, particularly with regard to his main promise, which is the Wall.
It’s quite possible that their long-term plan was to discredit Trump with his supporters by blocking the Wall, Obamacare repeal, and tax cuts ‘See, Trump can’t get anything done - he’s useless’. And also make him out to be a nutcase, such as when he also called out the Alt-Left in Charlottesville and many other cases.
With Trump useless and discredited as President, the final blow, they hoped, would come from Mueller. At that point, the idea would be to remove Trump from office, knowing that even his supporters are sick of him.
At least that was the plan...now it’s in tatters as the Republican leadership now has to fight for its life.
He needs to raise the debt ceiling now because of the hurricanes. Republicans are going to Stonewall him and let him sink on this whole hurricane funding thing

Many trumpsters drank the Donald’s kool-aid. He’s a life-long democrat and big government liberal. The more he shows his true colors, the more ridiculous the justifications from his rabid supporters will become.

I'm not in total disagreement with your characterization of Trump, but this comment has me scratching my head. What exactly have his "true colors" been, to date?
