The Trump administration has waived a key statute to allow for “as many ships as possible” to bring fuel into Florida, as part of a massive effort to ease gas shortages for Florida residents and others in the path of Hurricane Irma.

“We’re bringing in as much supply of refined fuel as possible,” Tom Bossert, White House homeland security adviser, told reporters on Friday.

The move was made in conjunction with state officials in Florida who are scrambling to get fuel to the pumps and alleviate gas shortages. Florida has taken several steps to expedite those shipments.

No hurricane hit the mainland in the last 12 years.

Anti-gouging rules are preventing people from hoarding fuel. A local sheriff reported people are buying tons of fuel rather than what they need for a few days or a short trip.

Allowing station owners to raise their prices HIGH will prevent this.

Hurricane Sandy was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, and the second-costliest hurricane in United States

A friend is driving up to the panhandle from Naples today. Said he couldn’t believe the amount of military personnel/vehicles headed south.

People remember both gougers and hoarders well after the emergency. Payback comes.

free markets matter

the reason a fuel shortage exists is because of socialist price regulations

“pipelines matter......”

Yeah, and gasoline and the whole distribution system. While watching on tv the long lines of autos making their way north on Florida I-95 been thinking what the evacuation would look like if everyone were driving electric cars...

Yep. I've read several stories where people are filling up to 10 gas containers.

Price controls and anti-gouging laws ALWAYS lead to shortages. Always. Many have tried to defeat the laws of Supply and Demand. All have failed.

Eminent economists Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell agree with me. (OK, I agree with them)

Also another article by John Stossell.

It was really cool watching videos of the Police armed escorts getting the tankers through the traffic as fast as possible........then the police will get the gas station employees to safety once they have to close down...

I have never seen such coordination and efficiency in this nation.....and that comes from the top down knowing how to delegate to people who can and will get the job done....and then letting them do it!

Koodos to Trump and the Governor!

Funny how actual people don’t behave like these ivory tower pinheads.

Payback comes if you are seen as antisocial in a crisis.

What does that little drive by smear with cowardly retreat have to do with anything? In crises people tend to band together and anyone making it difficult IS answered. The peace time rules are superseded in time of war — even war with nature.
