Hurricane Irma: Pope Francis condemns climate change sceptics
BBC News ^ | 11th September 2017 | BBC News

Pope Francis has warned history will judge world leaders who do not act as he blasted climate change sceptics in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. The pontiff said the recent storms meant the effects of climate change could be seen "with your own eyes". There have been four major Atlantic hurricanes in less than three weeks. But US Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt said it was an inappropriate time to discuss what role climate change may have played. Mr Pruitt - who has previously said he "would not agree" carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming - told CNN current speculation "on the cause and effect of the storm... is misplaced". Instead, Mr Pruitt said the conversation should be focused on the clean up effort.

Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado - whose city ended up partially underwater as Hurricane Irma swept across Florida - disagreed however, telling the Miami Herald newspaper: "This is the time to talk about climate change. This is the time that the president and the EPA and whoever makes decisions needs to talk about climate change."

Hurricanes are complex, naturally occurring beasts - extremely difficult to predict, with or without the backdrop of rising global temperatures. The scientific reality of attributing a role to climate change in worsening the impact of hurricanes is also hard to tease out, simply because these are fairly rare events and there is not a huge amount of historical data. But there are some things that we can say with a good deal of certainty. There's a well-established physical law, the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, that says that a hotter atmosphere holds more moisture. For every extra degree Celsius in warming, the atmosphere can hold 7% more water.

The climate is always changing Mr. Pope. Nobody is skeptical of that.

I really don’t want to be in the position of having to criticize the leader of a church, but this guy simply WILL NOT shut up.

Please, give your mouth a rest. Give the Catholic Church a rest.

No joke - I have yet to hear this Pope comment on religious matters but he can’t seem to shut up about SJW idiocy.

It’s an opinion on a matter not of faith or morals and therefore not binding on anyone.

This time we got a numb skull. He fails to recall God is in charge of the weather, sic: RENDER UNTO GOD THE THINGS THAT ARE GOD’S AND UNTO CAESAR, THE THINGS THAT ARE CAESAR’S.

Florida has been hit by a Category 4 or Category 5 hurricane on average every 8.3 years for the last 100 years. The 12 year hurricane hiatus between 2005 and 2017 is what is unusual.

Wish the Pope would devote more time and effort towards ridding the church of pederast priests.

The job of the Pope — any Pope — is not to worry about whom “History” will judge, but whom GOD will judge. This man is a fraud. Do your bloody job, Frankie. St. Paul said we should keep our eyes on ETERNITY.

BTW either the Pope watched too much TV or doesn’t open the window on a beautiful day. Kinda myopic.

The man missed his calling. He would have been much happier studying climatology and hanging with the ‘world is ending’ lefties than with all those starched collars and God and religion stuff.
