House Freedom Caucus (HFC) Chairman Mark Meadows said the powerful conservative group is planning to craft a bill aimed at reforming the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative.
President Donald Trump placed a six month limit in September on the Obama-era executive order, which provides a safeguard for more than 800,000 illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. The measure provides Congress a window to deliver a legislative solution for the program. Meadows told reporters Tuesday the HFC is hoping to put together a working group to begin constructing the measure within the week.
Were actually working on legislation. We obviously have a six-month time frame coming up to deal with DACA, and so its better that we put some guys on it to work on work on legislation instead of just waiting back for something to happen, Meadows said.
The North Carolina Republican said the conservative group is hoping to compose a multifaceted plan to deal with immigration-related issues.
What were trying to do is get a consensus among conservatives in what we need to do there, he said. What we are doing is trying to get a couple Freedom Caucus folks to look at immigration, DACA, border security, e-verify, all the issues, and figure out the best approach to deal with all of that.
Meadows said its critical they put forward a solution that meets conservative principles as Congress failed to deliver a debt-ceiling proposal consistent with the messaging GOP lawmakers touted on the campaign trail.

I propose all these illegal aliens be deported like yesterday...
DACA Bill
Line 1: DACA is rescinded
Line 2: Adios
Line 1: DACA is rescinded
Line 2: Adios
line 3: Deportations begin tomorrow!
Amnesty.
Folks (lobbyists, et al) working on this should limit it to ending/replacing DACA. Getting into the weeds on other issues is a mistake.
What they should do is what they do best, nothing.
Let the illegal DACA program expire and remove illegal aliens as per the law.
It will start out as a “replacing DACA” and will turn into “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” which we all know is amnesty.
simple solution, allow them to enroll in the military like other foreign nationals to gain citizenship. Deport those who don’t pass the background check for criminal history (likely most of em)
Ya know, I’m a conservative but I’ll admit I wasn’t hardcore until after a year on FR because there’s no immunity from NYC liberalism. Even on Staten Island.
But I’m a tad softer than the average FReeper, I guess.
But this is a no brainer!!
Their parents broke the law by bringing them here!!
That sucks for the “Dreamers”, HALF of whom are handing in fraudulent applications according to one fellow who worked with DACA, but that’s life!!
They are NOT American citizens.
WTH’s the issue?
Aside from POTUS, it seems like the Freedom Caucus are the only ones actually trying to get anything done in DC.
You seem to be forgetting the Freedom Caucus helped install Amnesty Ryan as Speaker. Don’t buy their beltway theater at face value, IMO.
Que les vaya muy bien, jovenes ilegales! Les invitamos a regresar algun dia, pero favor de hacerlo legalmente.
(Sorry, they don’t speak much English as yet, hence the Spanish lingo)
Yes...on track to "self extinguish"
Missing in the illegal immigration debate, is the fact that illegal immigration is human smuggling. These politicians who bloviate about the needs of keeping children born to foreigners here (and most of them are adults now) are condoning human smuggling and trafficking.
How come you don't hear any stories about the women who trade sex for getting across the border with coyotes? Or being forced to be drug mules? What about the sex trafficking of children?
None of this is discussed in the illegal immigration debate. And it's never in the news.
Actually, Mexico is a great place for brilliant dreamers. I think they would find welcome arms, the President has said they would get preferencial treatment. Maybe not any Food Stamps, but they could get wealthy in a few years. Sending them back might be a good thing. Someone should have send the folks of the Keys of Florida about a month ago to sell out. They would be much better off now.
This.
If they all run to pass DACA amnesty after doing absolutely nothing for the American people there’s a whole lotta people gonna be po’d. Me among them.
Why are they even crafting DACA legislation?! WTF!!
& these “conservatives” are supposed to be the voice of reason?
Lord help us
And nobody else will listen to them.
Being hardline and doing what is obviously legally and morally the right thing (in the case of DACA - deportation) is not always a winning solution or even possible. We need to learn from the Left who pushed their agenda for the last 40 years 2 and 3 yards at a time (compromising with the stupid party) and in so doing have scored a lot of touch downs. We on the other hand because of our desire for purity and principle throw three hail Mary passes and then punt every time. The DACA solution is simple, the left can have their million dreamers when the wall is funded and birthright citizenship is ended. Let the left try to explain to the people why they would rather have a million DACA people deported rather than fund a wall which is more popular than either party and end a citizenship policy that no other country even considers.
What happened to the Conservative solution - enforce the existing laws?
Although I voted for Trump, and will vote to reelect him, I wrote multiple posts at Free Republic in 2015 predicting that Trump would only deport illegal immigrant criminals, and that the rest of his immigration policies - DACA, universal E-Verify, H-1B, The Wall - were a steaming pile of political crap.
Trump - 2016 - Make America Great Again
Trump - 2020 - Less Destructive Than The Democrat Nominee
