NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The president of Lipscomb University has issued an apology after a centerpiece in his home was deemed offensive by students.
According to a Facebook post, President Randy Lowry invited African-American students to his home for dinner to discuss their experience at the university.
In an email to the Lipscomb community, Lowry said several of the students shared their concern about “material used for centerpieces which contained stalks of cotton.”
“The content of the centerpieces was offensive, and I could have handled the situation with more sensitivity. I sincerely apologize for the discomfort, anger or disappointment we caused and solicit your forgiveness,” Lowry wrote in the email.
Lowry ended the email by saying he welcomes the opportunity to “continue this conversation.”
Are they offended by indoor plumbing, electricity and iphones?

When I was a third grader in public suburban Connecticut elemetary school, we were taught to sing “Cotton Needs Pickin’”. I bet they don’t teach that in music class anymore.
I’m not sure what disgusts me more: that the snowflakes complained about the college president’s decor after he invited them into his home, or that he apologized to them. I’m leaning toward the apology. Somebody in a position of authority needs to say “Grow the hell up” to the snowflakes and stop pandering to them.
Now I’ve heard it all! What did the poor darlins do a few years back when the TV jingles played, advertising “Cotton; The fabric of our lives?” But yes, I understand; back then, students were still sane. But not now. They’ve gone bat guano crazy.
OMG, the lengths some snowflakes will go to in order to find a reason to be aggrieved.
Their complaints should be treated with disbelief and derision, not acted upon as if they have a serious basis. Rewarding these fake grievances only encourages the snowflakes to keep behaving that way.

Good thing it wasn’t the Fourth of July and he had them over and the center piece contained some red, white and blue stringers with an American flag. He’d need a new roof on his house.
Exactly. I am offended that the crop we raise and I help harvest offends idiots. Cotton bolls/stalks are a common decorating trend now. The president was so sensitive he affirmed their ignorance.
Put some fried chicken around the rim of the plate, beneath the watermelon.
