Luther Strange Sought to Weaken Alabama’s Tough Immigration Law

Back in 2011, Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL) sought to weaken what at the time was one of the country’s toughest illegal immigration laws.

As attorney general of Alabama, Strange requested that key provisions of the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, also known as HB 56, be removed according to a December 2011 memorandum he sent to then-Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard and Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh.

The memo, originally obtained by AL.com, showed Strange wanted to end some of the requirements in the law. Among those were a mandate that officials collect information on the immigration status of public school students, the requirement illegal immigrants carry “alien registration” cards and a provision of the law that allowed for lawsuits if the state’s residents did not believe officials were enforcing the law.

You’d think that the President would know you can’t “drain the swamp” with mud turtles like Strange representing the South.

I think Trump has been briefed by McConnell that it’s imperative to the GOP gameplan to keep Luther in DC. Beyond that, if you asked Trump...I doubt if he has any answer.

From Alabama itself...I’d say that around 70-percent of the state are very turned-off by Luther Strange and his connection to former governor Bentley. From the three-way match that existed in the first primary...Mo Brooks was the loser of that, and Mo endorsed Moore (Mo got 19-percent of the vote in that primary). So you can figure Moore with his previous vote, and with Mo’s folks....he ought to easily clear 50-percent.

Bringing Trump into the state....will do nothing to change things.

Trump doesn’t want him, he’s just playing the game. I am sure Trump will welcome with open arms Moore when he is elected.

“Trump doesn’t want him, he’s just playing the game. I am sure Trump will welcome with open arms Moore when he is elected.”

I thought this at first and still do. However it does beg the question that Trump doesn’t seem to playing the same game with Flake as with Strange. Trump has pretty much made it clear that he will work against Flake but so far has taken a different approach with Strange.

I think it may be because Strange has not been as (though some) personally and vocally hostile to Trump as Flake?

Do you have nothing better to do than haunt Free Republic spreading FUD (”Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt” for those unfamiliar with this Microsoft marketing strategy) about Moore?

For those who care about Trump’s stated agenda, vote for and/or support Moore. For those who want to advance the open-borders, globalist agenda, vote for Strange. It’s that simple.
