How BernieCare slams working people: Be Careful What you Wish for with Medicare-For-All
New York Post ^ | 09/20/2017 | Betsy McCaughey

Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All Act, introduced last Wednesday, outlaws private health insurance. Curiously, not one of the Democratic presidential wannabes crowding around Sanders for photo ops mentioned this alarming fact.

If Sanders has his way, 180 million Americans who currently have private coverage would have it ripped away and be automatically enrolled in public insurance.

Kids would be enrolled at birth.

Medicare for All doesn’t just offer government health insurance to the needy. It makes private coverage illegal, including the health coverage you get at your job. Employers are prohibited from covering workers, retirees and their families.

Sanders’ bill raises a critical question: If you’re seriously ill, will you be able to get the care you need?

BernieCare guarantees you hospital care, doctors’ visits, dental and vision care, mental health and even long-term care, all courtesy of Uncle Sam. Amazing, right? But read the fine print. You’ll get care only if it’s “medically necessary” and “appropriate.” Government bureaucrats will decide, and they’ll be under pressure to cut spending.

That’s because Sanders’ bill imposes an annual hard-and-fast dollar limit on how much health care the country can consume. He makes it sound simple — Uncle Sam will negotiate lower prices with drug companies. Voilà. But driving hard bargains with drug makers won’t make a dent in costs. Prescription drugs comprise only 10 percent of the nation’s health expenditures.

Limiting costs will mean also limiting how many mammograms, colonoscopies, hip replacements and other procedures Americans are allowed.

That’s how single-payer systems work. Britain’s National Health Service — the oldest single-payer system — is struggling to stay within its annual spending limit. Patients have to wait 18 weeks just for a referral to a specialist, and routinely wait 15 months for a cataract removal, according to a new Harvard Business Review report.

British patients at high risk of colon cancer are waiting as long as 13 weeks for a colonoscopy. Heart patients who could benefit from angioplasty have to settle for “watchful waiting.”

This month, NHS doctors warned that “a record number of patients could lose their lives if waiting times and bed shortages remain as bad as they already are.”

At least in Britain, people are free to buy private insurance, and go outside the government system for care. That’s also true in most European and Scandinavian countries with universal coverage. But not the Sanders plan. It traps you.

Medicare for All doesn’t just offer government health insurance to the needy. It makes private coverage illegal...

And it puts the government in the drivers seat with total price control. If you don't negotiate with the Medicare Monster under this plan, who will you sell to?

RE: Bernie would throw 180 million people off their health care??

Yep, to be replaced by one gigantic Medicare, not only for seniors, but for everyone.

On twitter Bernie always says “repeal and replace will throw 24 million off their health care”.

So it’s hypocrisy x8 for him to promote his plan. Way worse than Obama.

If you look at how the pricing will affect things...it’ll be a menu-like setting.

Imagine you live in a county with two clinics and four hospitals within a 30-minute drive. The clinics will look upon their offerings and just say that they will offer simple basic medical care. If you need x-rays or anything beyond the basics...they won’t provide it.

The four hospitals? At least two of them will convert to an lesser option program. If you need special surgery, you will likely be driving at least 90 minutes in the region to find that capacity.

All of us will start to look at quality care and realize that you can only reach that level that you were used to in 1980s/1990s....by driving the extra distance. It’ll seem cheaper but no one will be happy over the way that our lives are impacted.

Health Care managed by future revenue potential, death panels, withholding of care because of cost, crushing of innovation and research.

Delay, delay, delay and hope the patient dies.

Sounds wonderful /sarcasm/

God it sounds like the VA, and we ALL know how efficient that is.

Union guys who gave up cash raises over three decades of negotiation in exchange for health benefits are going to be very, very displeased.

Why do people allow the Democrats to claim that they are for the middle class?

With this insanity and a carbon tax, there won't be a middle class. Both will quickly finish off what is left of the middle class FOREVER! And the Democrats are pushing both aggressively.

And after Obamacare has proven for all to see that the Democrats promises are all lies.

UNBELIEABLE!

I posted on another thread that some Canadian provinces outlaw private health insurance as well. Wealthy Canadians just have their procedures handled here in the US.

Why not Gubmint Healthcare For All?
Imagine if Lois Lerner had been a health care apparatchik rather than an IRS apparatchik.
Need I say more?

>>It traps you.

The present system also traps folks.

Medicare is the only alternative for individuals in job markets where employers, who can’t afford to offer health care benefits, get around the mandate by making all jobs part time.

This in turn traps the medicare recipient in a situation where they are NOT ALLOWED to earn more than whatever the maximum income for medicaid qualification is.

If you have a chronic health issue, you’re locked beneath the deck of the Titanic.

Good. Let’s test it out shall we?

- All govt employees, contractors, vendors, etc. shall be subject to the Law.
- It will be ILLEGAL for *anyone* to travel to/from the U.S. for any medical test/procedure/etc.
- Code the bill like taxes: ‘auto-renewing’ unless specifically repealed for that budget year.

Let’s see how well it works by forcing GOVT to live within the law as the guinea-pigs.
