What a North Korea hydrogen bomb would do to the Pacific Ocean and space stations

BY NSIKAN AKPAN September 30, 2017 at 9:38 AM EDT

"Nutmeg" nuclear test at Bikini Atoll on May 22, 1958. This surface blast was 25.1 kilotons, so 1.5 times stronger than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. North Korea's alleged hydrogen bomb test in early September was 11 times stronger than Nutmeg. Last week, North Korea’s foreign minister floated the prospect of testing a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in response to President Donald Trump’s threat of “total destruction” of the Asian nation in a speech to the United Nations. Such a test, whether in the open air or underwater, would be the first of its kind in almost four decades.

But even before a hydrogen bomb test could trigger the fallout of international war, the blast would cause immediate damage to marine life and space technology like satellites and space stations.

What will that look like? The full repercussions depend largely on the science of the bomb, into which we have plenty of insight thanks to the 500 or so nukes detonated above ground from 1945 to 1980. Here’s a closer look at what a hydrogen bomb could mean for sea creatures, fisheries, astronauts and even Google Earth.

Wait. Are they trying to say that H-bombs are bad for “the environment”?

There is the question of which North Korean island
or controlled island they will detonate it over.

Guam isn’t one.

A total of 520 atmospheric tests had a total yield of 545,000 kilotons. One more test by NORKlandia is the straw that will break the came’ back? That sounds just like the “tipping point” hypothesis for global warming...which never happens.

If North Korea detonates a bomb over the Pacific absolutely nothing will happen to North Korea, or Pyongyang, or Kim Jong Un.

If it is done at high altitude over Pacific, the report says it will ruin many low-orbit satellites. We are in an age where significant portion of our personal life, business, and military operations depends on satellites.

Good point. The number of satellites must be up two orders of magnitude since the last test and many are now in low orbit.

The problem with Bin Laden killing is that he was not fed to pigs. Kim Jong Pig should know how we plan for him to be taken care of. I propose eaten by pigs, filmed and broadcast, shown to the NORKS.

Oh, and dig up his father and grandfather and dump them into the sewage treatment plant and broadcast to the nation.

the report says it will ruin many low-orbit satellites

At this point, that's just a theory.

But if it were known to be true, would it be a casus belli? Or a reason to cave and give the Norks what they want?

Hmmm...

If they test a weapon it will be a low altitude air burst as this type of explosion give the widest area of destruction. This type of explosion does not spread a lot of radioactivity over a wide area. A ground level burst spreads huge amounts of radiation over a large area. It has to do with irradiating the ground and blasting it up in the air to fallout on the ground downwind.

It should be noted that North Korea went from 10 to 25 kiloton weapons to a 250 kiloton hydrogen bomb in just a few short years. This weapon was not of their design. You do not progress that fast in nuclear weapons. This was either a Chinese design or a Chinese design via Pakistan. The Chinese stole the designs of our weapons years ago. Click the link below from the NY Times. Oddly it is accurate.

http://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/06/world/breach-los-alamos-special-report-china-stole-nuclear-secrets-for-bombs-us-aides.html?mcubz=3

The weapon was our W-88, an advanced miniaturized thermonuclear weapon.

This is very serious to say the least. North Korea is partners with the insane mad Mullahs of Iran. One must assume Iran also has the designs. They have oil and money and North Korea needs both. They will make a deal. 300 billion dollars of impounded funds of Iran were released to Iran by Obama the traitor. 300 billion will buy a lot of W-88s.

This is the legacy of Clinton and Obama and to a lesser extent both Bushes.

“the report says it will ruin many low-orbit satellites

‘At this point, that’s just a theory.’ “

If you think that’s an unproven hypothesis you must be living in about 1958.

It just might be time for the US to start taking out the NORK missiles just above the launch pad?
