PALDING COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
Two students at a metro Atlanta elementary school say they were singled out for what they did during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Tuesday morning at Orrs Elementary School, 10-year-old Jason Newberry said he and one classmate put their hand over their heart while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. He said when they did, others in the class called them names.
"Me and him got called KKK, Nazi, and we just kept getting bullied the whole day," said Newberry.
Newberry said it wasn't until his second period teacher showed them a news clip of NFL players kneeling that he realized the present controversy surrounding the flag.
The teacher made a poll on paper and passed it out to all the students to see what they thought was right or wrong about taking a knee. The teacher even told students that she would never stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and that if she did stand she would not really mean it.
A spokesperson for Spalding School District tells CBS46 the assignment was suppose to be a lesson on First Amendment Rights, but they wouldn't say if the teacher was disciplined for her comments.
In a letter sent home to parents Wednesday, they teacher wrote the following:
I apologize for expressing my views to my students. I recognize that while this was not a one-sided lesson, the topic itself and the expression of my views were not appropriate, my intentions were well-meaning
Parents say they plan to stand with their children Thursday morning in front of the school's flag poll when the National Anthem is recited over the loud speaker.

Do you approve of teachers pushing political controversies down into elementary schools? Suppose she was coming down on the side of those defending the anthem and the flag. Would that be acceptable? Or should children in grade school get their views, if any, from what they hear their parents saying?

This teacher needs to be fired. If there is any justification for taxpayer funded education, it’s to teach the next generation to love and preserve the republic. She can’t even manage to do that.

She is the norm rather than the exception. Where do you think these anti-American kids are coming from?
The spelling errors in the article are probably the result of the journalist dictating the article into some sort of digital recording device and the speech recognition software selecting the wrong, but correctly spelled, word. No red underlines, no green underlines; good to go! Hit the post button and onto the next assignment.
In a different time and place, this is how Jewish kids were treated. Why is this so hard for people to see?

News broadcast CENSORED the name and photo of the “teacher”. GEE I wonder why. Can any Atlanta FReepers find out from local folks who this despicable bitch is so she can rightfully be exposed?
I think parents have to start demanding that there kids get removed from classes where the teachers is politicizing there education... have enough parents demand this and it is easier for the school district to just remove the teachers. Most of the teachers doing this behavior have graduated with in the last eight years and don’t have tenure. also when a parent does demand there kids be removed they have to let other parents know why so others might join them
