Shameful NBC and The 2017 Presidents Cup
Wuli | 10/1/2017 | Wuli

I regularly watch PGA golf tournaments.

The President's Cup is a U.S. golf tournament organized by the PGA (Professional Golf Association) in 1994.

The tournament pits a U.S. team against an international team drawn from players around the world. Each year it has an honorary chairman which is always a former or sitting U.S. President or a foreign leader (depending on which team last held the tournament cup). This year President Trump was the honorary chairman (Obama held the title twice - 2009 and 2013).

This year's President's Cup tournament was won by the American team.

PGA tournaments are usually 3-4 day affairs over a weekend from Thursday through Sunday.

The Golf Channel usually has most of the day's play on Thursday and Friday, and early parts of the play on Saturday and Sunday; turning over the televised play to either ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX, depending on the PGA television contracts for the season.

I cannot remember a single time in the past when the end of a major PGA tournament ran overtime on Sunday and the host broadcast network cut away from the tournament - did not continue the live coverage until the tournament EVENT was over, and instead switched to the scheduled network or local programming; UNTIL today. They always just apologize to the viewers, saying regular programming will resume as soon as the PGA tournament actually ends. Not today.

There can be no doubt that NBC failed to continue the coverage of The 2017 President's Cup event, until the very end, for political reasons.

The match play was over about ten minutes before 6:PM, and 6:PM was the scheduled end of the NBC coverage. The presentation of the tournament cup was never before - until today - cut out of the live network TV coverage.

Why? Why today? President Trump made the presentation of the tournament cup to the American team. You can be certain that had someone else been presenting the tournament cup - which was completed by about 6:10PM, that NBC would have continued the live coverage of the PGA event.

NBC = NFL = politics before viewers.

NBC is owned by Comcast. They are elitists. They hate Trump, this diss him when and wherever possible. Well, we can also diss NBC/Comm(ie)cast. The HQ for NBC is in 30 Rock. The pinnacle of the Establishment anywhere in the world.

>> NBC is owned by Comcast.

As is the Golf Channel. But these connections are never discussed — by anyone.

No doubt much of the Trump hatred stems from corporate. Disney, Comcast, and Viacom are basically dictating the political divisiveness. Curious to see what AT&T will do with CNN.

Yet no one said a word when BO filled in the NCAA basketball brackets.

Or golfed during emergencies - IIRC, after Obamacare was passed and BO was shrieking that it was such an emergency, he didn’t bother to sign it for several days because he was on vacation somewhere.

I noticed that too.
Anything to embarrass Trump.
I am no longer interested in ‘compromise’.

I’ve spent the day looking for a home security system - alomst signed up with Comcast and then just couldn’t do it and went with someone else. They had a good deal...but hey..it’s Comcast who you have to watch like a hawk so they won’t jack up your rates.

I saw it; because I have the Golf Channel as one of my cable channels; so I, personally did not miss it.

Many viewers without a cable TV package that includes the Gold Channel saw that the full end of the event - the presentation of the cup - was just minutes away, but they wouldn’t see it, because shameful NBC said they would not, and did not show it, they switched to local/network scheduled coverage before the cup presentation, by Trump.

Never, that I know of, did a broadcast channel, broadcasting a major PGA tournament, fail to continue the live coverage of the event, to the very end, and when necessary continuing into liver overtime coverage, delaying the switch over to the scheduled local or network programming - until today.

It can be no accident that Trump was the reason.

I hate the liberal media. I watched the game and they did show a couple of clips of President trump. I bet the executives told them to cut it out.

Yeah. And Obozo misspelled Syracuse. Nary a word. Not a single one.

I wonder why?

I intend to bring this up to the PGA officials, and as many PGA members I can get social media connections or Email addresses to. I want to suggest to the PGA that NBC be dropped from eligibility to cover PGA events.

Trump making the tournament cup presentation, as the U.S. President, and the honorary President’s Cup chairman for 2017, would not have been a “political” event.

What was political was NBC truncating their live coverage so as to not show President Trump making the cup presentation. They have never done it - failed to keep live coverage going into over time when necessary - with any other major PGA tournament I know of.

In war compromise is for fools; and don’t kid yourself, we have been at war with the left since 1914.

What a rip off!!!
I watched over four hours, expressly to watch President Trump present the Cup to the United States team, only to have to switch over to the Golf Channel to catch the presentation.

It’s truly outrageous how the damn peacock network treats this extraordinarily great man who literally made them a fortune for 14 years!!!

Compromise should have went out the window when Kennedy duped Reagan.

Ummmmm - I watched it and NBC notified us that they would stop on the hour because the Golf Channel was picking it back up. Besides, the actual golf was over close to 15 minutes before the hour. Watched President Trump get cheered loudly as he was introduced and changed channels shortly after.

My point is I have watched the PGA tournaments for years, and NEVER have I seen a BROADCAST network end their coverage on the final day, even when they run 30 min plus overtime, until all the play is over AND the tournament trophy was awarded - never. Not once, until yesterday, when they knew Trump would be making the presentation.

The Golf Channel always has coverage earlier than the broadcast channel and by itself on the first two days. On Saturday and Sunday the Golf Channel has some early coverage and ends it once the broadcast channel takes over.

On the last day, running over time or not, the broadcast channels have stayed live on the tournament until the trophy presentation was done.

Suddenly and for the first time with Trump presenting the trophy, they changed their standard PGA tournament coverage, and left before the cup presentation.

And, the fact that it could be seen on the Golf Channel did not change the fact that it was not standard past practice on major PGA tournaments, and much fewer people have the Golf Channel as one of their viewing options.

Had it been any other president making the Presidents Cup presentation, NBC would not have done that.

You are correct - NBC's loss.

Trump had a rousing set of cheers when he was announced which keeps me liking the PGA. Also noted that folks unashamedly rooted for their own countries and nobody seemed to think the shows of patriotism were "out of bounds/oppressive/racist".
