President Donald Trump’s decision to end a provision of the Affordable Care Act that was benefiting roughly 6 million Americans helps fulfill a campaign promise, but it also risks harming some of the very people who helped him win the presidency.
Nearly 70 percent of those benefiting from the so-called cost-sharing subsidies live in states Trump won last November, according to an analysis by The Associated Press.
The subsidies are paid to insurers by the federal government to help lower consumers’ deductibles and co-pays. People who benefit will continue receiving the discounts because insurers are obligated by law to provide them. But to make up for the lost federal funding, health insurers will have to raise premiums substantially, potentially putting coverage out of reach for many consumers.
Some insurers may decide to bail out of markets altogether.
“I woke up, really, in horror,” said Alice Thompson, 62, an environmental consultant from the Milwaukee area who purchases insurance on Wisconsin’s federally run health insurance exchange.
Thompson, who spoke with reporters on a call organized by a health care advocacy group, said she expects to pay 30 percent to 50 percent more per year for her monthly premium, potentially more than her mortgage payment. Officials in Wisconsin, a state that went for a Republican presidential candidate for the first time in decades last fall, assumed the federal subsidy would end when they approved premium rate increases averaging 36 percent for the coming year. …

1. Obama violated a federal judges order in 2015 and illegally ordered the US Treasury to pay the subsidies to insurance companies.
2. The ACA (Obamacare) specifically said Congress had sole authority to pay insurance company subsidies.
3. Trump is not only following the Constitution as the federal judge ordered, he’s following the letter of the Obamacare statute.
4. We still have Medicaid. The “poor” have access to health insurance and health care.
5. Trump gave Congress 60 days to vote on the subsidies.

Shouldn't that be an even greater reason for Congress to fix the problem like they promised.? (Or they can explain to their voters why they didn't fix the problem in November 2018.)

The vast majority of health coverage changes was increased enrollment under existing Medicaid criteria in all 57 states and territories in the US.
The second biggest was enrollment under Medicaid expansion by those.
The number who participated in ACA subsidy was the smallest of the 3. The ACA subsidy is actually a subsidy to big insurance and big Hospital and big IT. Anyone who thought it was about the little guy was conned.
Which reminds me, I have always had an issue with Politicians than use the phrase “Vote in your self interest”.

Obamacare plans with all their expansive bells and whistles have always been out of my sustainable financial reach.
People like me need low-cost hospitalization only plans.
I would most prefer that hospitals offer Medicare level pricing for a modest annual fee. That would be something that doesn’t require DC-based action.

How could she have possibly calculated how much insurers would have to raise premiums on those getting a regular policy to cover those getting the cost-sharing subsidies? She would have to know the number of people currently getting these subsidies and the premiums they pay, plus the number of people with regular policies and the premiums they pay, along with how much the insurance company pays out in medical care to calculate the premium increase for next year.
Even if she had all that data at her fingertips, she would still not pay more than 10% of her income in premiums. She must have a very small mortgage or a large income to claim her premium will exceed her mortgage.
