Soros has created a superpower for democracy. But he could use some help. [barf alert]

If a person is to be judged by his enemies, George Soros can feel proud. Autocrats across Eastern Europe, including his native Hungary, as well as those from China to Egypt and many in between, have expressed fear and loathing — and taken action against — the civil society organizations that Mr. Soros has generously supported for three decades. Dictators do not like Mr. Soros at all, so it is good news that he has now contributed $18 billion of his fortune to his Open Society Foundations. Mr. Soros was moved many years ago by the 1945 book by Karl Popper, “The Open Society and Its Enemies,” written during the struggle against totalitarianism in World War II but holding lessons for today. Then as now, a healthy civil society — the connections of free citizens to one another through the press, informal associations, advocacy organizations and otherwise — is the bane of authoritarianism.

Mr. Soros, who lived in Nazi-occupied Hungary as a boy, is at the forefront of pushing back against totalitarianism and authoritarianism, and his new commitment suggests that his foundations will sustain this mission for years to come.

As former president George W. Bush said in an important address on Thursday, “For more than 70 years, the presidents of both parties believed that American security and prosperity were directly tied to the success of freedom in the world. And they knew that the success depended, in large part, on U.S. leadership.” For all the positive works Mr. Soros envisions for his billions, it would be doubly good if the government of the United States were walking in tandem with him, and it is a tragedy that it is not.

Some have said he helped send prisoners to their deaths.

I must admit I don’t know the actual facts on that if anyone can comment. TIA

Horsesh!t. He’s FOR these things, not pushing back. He profited from selling people out during WWII.

Only those who cannot deny his ties to the rent-a-mobs and Obama’s Puppet Presidency come out swinging on Georgie $oros’ side.

Well, now we know where Jeff Bezos stands. Soros wants to unleash the Hobbesian mob. Bezos cheers him on. Let the mob consume them both.

Soros, as the Nazi’s errand boy, delivered notices to Jews who were destined to board trains for the concentration camps.

Many here are stating that he helped Nazis steal from Jews. I’m just stating that he is a Jew himself.

By law, for a foundation to retain its tax-exempt status, it must give away 5% of its assets every year. A competent money manager normally can earn more than that level. If the endowment has enough assets, this has the effect of allowing foundations to have eternal life.

I think the Founding Fathers would shudder at the thought of independent bodies who report to nobody would be given a “carve-out” to be fairly free to influence public policy and social attitudes, but this is exactly what leftist foundations do. (Like the Tides and Soros Foundations to just name two).

In a time when government is searching for more tax revenue, one untapped source is to change the required payout from 5% to 7.5%. This would force foundations to spend-out their assets at a rate slightly faster than they can earn on the investments. This would flush billions of dollars into the economy in the form of wages from the resulting grants and expenditures. Government would gain tax revenue that came from that.

Just as important, it would make foundations mortal. The Tides and Soros foundations would spend themselves out of business. And given leftist economics, the temporary increase in foundation spending would be spent ineffectively, just like leftist know how to do. Who knows, maybe the Tides foundation would try to restart Solyndra.

I just love how they ignore his true involvement regarding the Nazi's. What can be more authoritarian than power concentrated to a select few, who most likely would not be elected, but rather selected by select others. After all the little people can not be trusted to have a say in matters so important. The result might be something as really devastating as electing Donald J. Trump as President.

People in the world that follow socialism are truly lost souls.
