Impose carbon tax and let the market solve climate change | Opinion

In its zeal to undo the legacy of our 44th president, the Trump administration is now undoing the future of our children and grandchildren by repealing the Clean Power Plan, a policy designed to reduce the heat-trapping emissions that make our climate more and more inhospitable.

It’s clear that our unstable climate is putting bigger and bigger burdens on our economy. It’s also clear that the White House is determined to remove regulations on the use of dirty fuels contributing to that unstable climate.

The best answer is for Congress to pass legislation that would put the market to work on solving climate change.

The policy is a steadily rising fee on carbon with revenue returned to households. This approach uses the power of the market to hold fossil fuels accountable for the damage they inflict on our society.

A straightforward carbon fee would drive investment and consumer behavior toward low-carbon energy and energy efficiency, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The fee would impose a price on fossil fuels as they are extracted from the ground, at the mine, or wellhead. All the funds collected go into one “pot,” which would be distributed monthly as a dividend to every household in the country.

In repealing the Clean Power Plan, the Trump administration shows that it’s bent on removing government regulations around climate change. That means it’s up to Congress to make the market solve this problem instead. Failure to act will lead to the day when climate-related disasters outpace our ability to recover and adapt.

How about abortion credits? Maybe the market will take care of that too?

Mark needs to be introduced to Dorsen of the Democratic Republic of Congo...

Not that it would make a difference to him.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Carbon credits is ridiculous. The assumption being made is that there is a fixed number of carbon and it is pre allocated. If you want more, someone will get less but you pay them for their share.

It’s stupid, period. But, there is a reason why rats like this. Eventually someone winds up with all the credits while the money is redistributed to grants with an oil field.

The stupid is strong in this one. Scientists could use the inside of his head to perform experiments in a vacuum.

Stop exhaling if you believe CO2 is a dangerous pollutant.

Problem solved.

If taxes are your answer you are asking the wrong questions.

Simply: a tax like this is a benefitless cost ... it increases inefficiencies, funds those who consume resources without producing goods and services, and contributes to ACCELERATING the use of energy and resources by directing them away from where they actually help and advance human welfare.

It’s also clear that the White House is determined to remove regulations on the use of dirty fuels contributing to that unstable climate.

...Because Mark Reynolds apparently thinks that before man came along, the climate was "stable."

Al Gore is big on carbon markets. He wants a new fleet of jets, a new castle, and a couple of islands to play on.

No. You can’t say “carbon tax”, o Philly Inquisitor! You have to be more specific. Do you really mean JUST Co2, but are too stupid to say that? Or do you mean ALL carbon. Hmm. Carbon can form complex molecules, and is found in the compounds that are part of living organisms. Is that what they mean?

Then you’ll be taxing my dog’s pups when she has them.
