Drugs are addictive and need to be controlled.

Alcohol and tobacco are addictive - and banning hinders control by putting drugs in the black market outside the reach of effective regulation, as happened during alcohol Prohibition.

But isn’t there now nearly six decades of evidence of the effects of illegal drug use?

There's at least as much evidence of the effects of use of the legal drug alcohol - should that drug be banned (again)?

It’s all fun and games until someone yells “what-what in the butt”.

Pot leads to speed leads to pain meds leads to heroin.

Legalization keeps people from having to frequent dealers where meth, coke and other drugs might be available. Could your statement be amended to say "Alcohol leads to weed, leads to pot....?"

I do understand all the arguments.

There was once a stigma over illegal practices. Some would abstain from drugs because the downside outweighed the upside.

For example a conviction over drugs might screw up an otherwise promising professional career. That DID influence me in my 20s to stop my occasional pot use.

Today our society has virtually no meaningful consequences, for bad behavior.

So, an unjust law can be justified if it brings about a desired change? Not sure I wanna go down that road.
