According to White House officials, Trump accepted that some of the records contained references to sensitive sources and methods used by the intelligence community and law enforcement and that declassification could harm American foreign policy interests. But after having the scope of the redactions presented to him, Trump told aides he did not believe them to be in the spirit of the law.

This is covering up one thing, and one thing only. And that is the deep state stood by, let it happen, and they have far too much power and should have been disbanded.
The telling point here is that these documents are 54 years old, sources and methods are either deceased or woefully out of date as technology. Moreover, the agencies had months to make their case on sensitive redactions and weeks after Trump’s announcement — why did they have to wait until the last part of the last day to scream “danger from compromising sources and methods”? State secrets in this case?? BS

Consider the NSA's regard for the Fourth Amendment and the CIA having been caught running operations on US soil though explicitly forbidden to do so.
The question, to me, is how these agencies managed to maintain even a veneer of respectability for so long.

Certainly this much, but my cynical tendencies make me think that it wasn't just standing by
, but active participation — that's the only thing that I can imagine still being relevant after 50 years… and, interestingly enough, points to a conspiracy in itself because all documents are automatically declassified after 25-years, unless otherwise marked.
I've heard some theories that he was involved in things, possibly even there in Dallas.
Not everyone uses technology all over the world. Meeting people, gaining their trust or how they supply cover and protection may not have changed. We still talk and walk the same way (although I did just see the thread about a paralyzed man walking) and being on the ground and infiltrating an organization, I doubt has changed. Computers may do the data research but not all psyops have changed because....people have not changed.
When Congress voted for the records to be released in 1992 they didn’t think CIA /groper GHW Bush would still be groping people.
