Israel refuses to support Spain against Catalan independence

Breaking with the stance of other Western countries, Israel decided on Monday not to express an official opinion on the issue of Catalan independence in the meantime, NRG reported.

According to the report, Spain asked Israel over the weekend to publicly declare that it does not support Catalan independence, as part of Spain’s efforts to garner international consensus on the matter.

Israel’s ambivalence is a departure from the opposition to Catalan independence declared by the EU and US. On Friday, US State Dept. spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement that “Catalonia is an integral part of Spain, and the United States supports the Spanish government’s constitutional measures to keep Spain strong and united.”

According to NRG, the reasons for Israel’s move are twofold: First, Catalonia is seen as a pro-Israel region, with Israeli flags a common sight on Catalan homes - notwithstanding the Barcelona municipality’s recent adoption of BDS measures.

Second, Israel is fed up with Spain’s anti-Israel stance of many years. This attitude was manifested in comments made by Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan during the Spanish crackdown on the Catalan referendum: “For many years, Spain lectured us about how we need to give [national] rights to the Palestinian Arabs,” wrote Ben-Dahan on Twitter. “Today we see their hypocrisy, as [Spain] doesn’t even allow the Catalans to hold a referendum on independence.”

I was hoping they'd recognize Catalan, for these very same reasons. But I'll take it. There's no percentage in supporting the EU. They'll hate us regardless.

No, because recognizing Catalan independence will be used against them for recognizing “Palestine.”

I thought Catalan independence was some sort of “Islamic plot” if some of the posts in the threads here on FR lately are accurate.

Catalan independence was supposed to lead to an Islamic takeover.

But Israel’s position should tell us something about that notion.

They are accurate. Israel wants something in exchange from Spain, which has nearly invariably backed Israel's enemies. They won't support the Spanish position for nothing.

The globalists are running a religion that is anti religious freedom. Jews should not support that theocracy and might as well support their own because small tribes are going to not survive this if they do not stick together.

This is a beginning of tribulation and cracks in globalism appear before it is even officially proclaimed. Interestingly God seemed to have used Stalin’s “joke” of supporting Israeli tribulation to start trouble in ways he cannot control it anymore.

“There's no percentage in supporting the EU. They'll hate us regardless.”

I agree, but why? What is motivating what appears to be increasing European anti-Semitism? Very disturbing.

Islamization, secularization, and reaction to extreme propaganda, just for starters.

“Palestine” has already been recognized by several countries, and twice by the UN General Assembly. Yet on the ground there is no sign of it here. Recognizing Catalan would hardly alter things for the worst. Spain’s hypocritical recalcitrance itself would make it easier to not recognize “Palestine,” and the actual “Palestinians” would breath a sigh of relief. While we’re at it, let’s recognize Basque-land, should it do a referendum, and also Ruthenia.

Spain was a super power in the 16th Century. Hasn’t amounted to much since. But still, the chance to rub their faces in it should not be missed. For the pogroms, the expulsion, the inquisition, auto da fes, and the usual anti-Israel crap. A small payback for enormous wrongs committed over centuries.

The headline implies that Israel recognizes Catalonia. The article indicates that this is not true.

Neither side really deserves support. One is historically anti-Semitic and currently globalist; the other historically anti-Semitic and currently Communist.

A plague on both their houses!

And that’s exactly why Israel should recognize them, to bring down a plague on both their houses.
